I want purple when my orpingtons are involved...this little guy had better hope he's a she or he'll be dinner - like his big bro!!!

That's it! He is pretending to be an orp!!

I have a LG with a turner and fan. Hubby said if we are gonna do this, we're gonna do it right, so we had to get the turner and fan.

I am up to fourteen with one on his way out and three more pipped.

What about everyone else? What is going on with all of you??

Well today is day 22 and I have 8 out of my 11 so far. Most just popped right out one needed help. He had pipped on Friday morn around 5 a.m. but then nothing. Today at 6:30 a.m. I helped and he was all tied up. His wing was up over his head and all you could see of him was a very small beak. His leg was all skiwonkied too. He is sprattled legged but I will fix that. Another egg had pipped just a short time after this egg and he finally hatched after 27 hours. I just looked at the three left and two may have passed. The other one feels heavy and when candled it looks good. We will wait and see.

I did panic yesterday...I left for a few hours and when I came back the humidity had jumped to 95% and the temp was at 105. I thought for sure I had poached chicks. Thankfully they seemed alright.

I am terrible at keeping the bator closed. I am always opening it and retrieving chicks or rearranging eggs so that I can see them better. I was so worried after the first three chicks came that I just had to remove them. They were perched on the other eggs and tumbling over them. I saw one egg get shoved across the bator by my first chick. He was sitting on it and fell off backwards shooting the poor egg across the area. That poor egg still hasn't hatched.

I am also curious as to what brand of thermometer/hygrometers that you all use. Mine is a digital thermometer/hygrometer by enviracaire. It works beautifully. It was not intended for chick hatching but for house care. But it works and I'll keep using it.

I am so glad that you all have had good turn outs. I will post pics just as soon as I can. I am still trying to figure out the mothers. I see lots of reds and blues (since the dad is a BLRW I was expecting some).

I wan't to see your pics. Please post them.

Thanks for the support y'all.

I just ordered a thermo hydro combo that is intended for use in thermidors to keep the humidity in the cigars right. It is supposed to be super accurate.
I have every kind of cheap thermo and they all read differently. Very frustrating.
I have a thermo hydro combo that is for reptiles and it seems to be good but doesn't always agree with the digi therm I have in there with it.
Very frustrating.

Scrapmom, Sounds like you have a good hatch! Congratulations. I would wait another day to crack those last eggs. They may still come through. Who knows about these hatching eggs??? heehe
Send pix.

That sounds great, scrapmom! We are going very, very, slowly, one every several hours. We are up to 16 and one pushing. I wasnt able to keep the lid closed either. I had to keep adding a wet sponge, my humidity was at 40%.

The way its looking, I will probably leave them till at least monday morning. Today is day 22, but I just got a new pip an hour ago.

I just have a house hygrometer we had laying around, and a oral thermometer. i will get something else for the next batch. The humidor one sounds like a good idea.
