anyone have a VitaMix ? is it worth the $$$

Good to know, Thanks for the tip ! I have a classic 80's kitchen so cabinet height may be a problem.

Do you like the Blendtec ? I noticed it is about the same price as a vitamix, any other pro's/con's comparing it to a vitamix ?

I have a blentek that I purchased off of ebay for about a hundred dollars. It has been well worth the cost and does everything that the vitamix does. I use it several times a week for smoothies. It also makes awesome homemade mayo and dressings. I use it for pesto and all sorts of things during the summer.
If it broke today, I would not hesitate to purchase another one. Off of ebay, of course.

LOVE it!! However, like VitaMix, the Blendtec is very loud. According to this review, the Blendtec is louder. Idk, I thought my mom & dad's VitaMix was pretty darn loud. I keep a hearing protector in a kitchen drawer, just to be on the safe side. My counter space is very limited and I like the looks of the BlendTec better....kinda silly reason, know. I ordered mine from Discount Juicers, same place where I bought my juicer and dehydrator. Good company to deal with.

Thanks All for the great feedback .... It definitely is at the TOP of my Christmas list for this year, hope Santa is saving his pennies

We like it and it's always handy for making smoothies or "adult beverage" icy drinks at parties!

I use ours for hot sauce and for mole sauce, mostly.

We didn't get the nut butter or grain grinding blade, though.

Maybe later.

I don't use it as much as my Kitchenaid but I like knowing it's there when I need it.

I have the Blend-Tec and could not believe that I spent so much money on a blender but now I could not live without it. I make EVERYTHING with that blender. it is really the only appliance I need now - besides my coffee maker

need that caffeine.

This does not sound good but it tastes great and has a bunch of anti-oxidents
spinach leaves frozen blueberries and water
That is what I am trying to replace coffee with. It gives me a boost of energy in the morning and in the evening without keeping me up at night.

My family has one.
Before it, I never bothered making smoothies because I knew I'd have to take the blender apart to clean it. With a Vitamix (or any similar type of blender, like Blendtec), I have a fruit smoothie every day.

My parents have one. They use it about twice a week and love the thing. They make smoothies, upon smoothies, upon smoothies with it! Ear plugs are kept near by for the one using the blender, especially when ice is involved. To put into perspective how often twice as week is... they also have a 8-10 year old kitchen aid that has been used a grand total of 3 times. lol

I don't have one, but my friend LOVES hers. Her daughter was hit by a car and suffered a brain injury, so she has to make purees of her food. It got the food smooth enough to put through the feeding tube in her abdomen, and now she is able to eat it by mouth. It grinds everything from veggies to nuts and doesn't require a lot of extra liquids to do it.

I'd say that the Vitamix has pros and cons. I had my Vitamix for approx. 2 years. It is powerful but I have been having doubts about my purchase. At the time of purchase, I was also considering the Blendec. I typically use it to make smoothies. I don't like using it to blend dense or oily substances because they are hard to get out and difficult to clean. So in spite of the advertised ways that the Vitamix can be used, the structure of the container and the 4 prong blade limits the things that can be made with the blender. Adding a drop or two of detergent to clean it after adding oily substances to the blender doesn't suffice. In terms of aesthetics, the blender is bulky and looks rather old-fashioned compared to the Blendtec. In addition, the Vitamix is tall so it doesn't fit underneath my cabinets (this wasn't a problem when I brought it until I moved). Today, I noticed gunk beneath the blades, which considering the position would be difficult to clean. Blending detergent with water doesn't help. Overall, I really wished I purchased the Blendtec instead of the Vitamix even through it was noted that it is a quality machine, lasts many years and quality customer service. In addition, a plus of the Blendtec is that it can blend grains whereas with the Vitamix, you have to buy a separate container.
