Anyone have any ideas as to gender?

I do think the red sex link( 2nd.light Sussex) is a cockerel - white , with red coming in by wings but it's not written in stone.

Red Sex Links are the cross between a red colored rooster and white colored hens. That cross creates auto-sexable chicks. The male chicks are yellowish and the females are red. When grown the males are mainly white with some red markings. The females are the exact opposite, mainly red with some white on tail, wings, and neck. If that is the case, it would not be a Light Sussex as they are a pure breed that is columbian in color.

Thanks!! That explained it nice & simply

This particular chick was totally yellow until about 3-4wks old. In the last week we have noticed white feathers growing in on the wings, & now these brown coloured specks on its back. Its comb is very pale, just as pale as the other 2 chicks, & its growth at this stage is pretty much exactly the same aswell, including their little drumstick legs

But i will be prepared for it to be a rooster, as you guys are much more knowledgeable than i am.

Another couple of pics...I have noticed that unlike the Lohmon chick, this ones beak is much darker, & although the comb is still very pale, it is a little larger than the Lohmons comb aswell...maybe these things are good signs that we do in fact have at least one roo amongst the 3.

Hi, Honeyb711!

I think what Rhodebar Lover said about the Red Sex Link says it all. Though before I read that even though the White chick wasn't showing a lot of red in it's comb, it seemed rather large to me. Next time you put up chick pics when trying to sex them include head shots or shots that one can see the combs clearly. Judging sexes depends a lot on which chicken breed you are looking at as well as their age at the time. Some it's the pattern and/or colouring in the wings, body or heads, how quickly or slowly their tails grow, whether the boys' combs and wattles come in more quickly than the females or not. 'Cause some breeds just don't!

(e.g. Silkies are terrible to sex as one just has to wait until they crow or lay an egg to be sure!) Some other breeds one can tell from feather sexing whilst others just confuse you further! e.g. Left wing = dble layer. Right wing = single layer!

I know.... I've tried! Lol!

As they grow, some males have thicker legs or slightly different coloured legs, the stance and behaviour comes into play as well. But, when posting pics of chicks (and I know that it's not that easy!) ensure you have the similar photos for people to compare. Please don't take this the wrong way as the photos you submitted were quite good otherwise the responses you received would have requested more pics in order to answer your questions. For me, with only 5yrs experience behind me, I was going to ask for some better head shots.

All the best and good luck!

No offense taken. I kinda figured my pics were not the best, but they are so tricky to keep still long enough for a nice clear pic

The 'white'chick (although actually still quiet yellow) could perhaps just look large as my hand is only small

It is no bigger than the other 2 in person though.

I will attempt some clearer pics tomorrow.

The different beak color looks to be a natural variation of pigmentation. Sadly, it is looking even more like a Red Sex Link. It's safe to bet that it's a male.

Thanks for the info, there is still so much i need to learn. I started wondering after seeing some pics of Delaware chicks, if this chick may be one of them? It was entirely yellow until a week ago when the white feathers & coloured spots started showing.

Im thinking i will try rehome this one chick right away, & replace with a definite female. Then it is only the Australorp left to see if it is in fact a hen...fingers crossed xx
