Anyone have experience with Parvo-URGENT

The dog was not feeling well for last 2 days but not real bad. Took in to vet today and was tested - positive for Parvo.

big issue is that everyone involved where the dog is located - it seems are not very knowledgeable about dogs and especially sick dogs and really about how bad Parvo can be. Really frustrating that I could be of help but so far away. TN very far away from MN

I don't think they will live without subQ fluids at the least.

Parvo can live in the soil for a year. So no new pups should be brought in.

the parvo virus can also be carried on your shoes/clothing, so separating the sick pup isn't enough. You have to basically have a set of clothing JUST for caring for the sick pup. After leaving the sick room, you have to clean your hands with bleach, bleach anything that is coming out of that room - shoes, utensils, etc and change clothes before going into the rest of the house.

I want to add, parvo is a horrible way to die for a young pup. It takes round the clock care to nurse a dog through it, esp a young puppy

Where in TN? PM me if you don't want to post on here... if he's in my neck of the woods I may can help with vet...

I didn't read all the posts, but I did see the recommendation to separate the sick pup from the "not sick" one. Yes, separate, but DO NOT assume that the seemingly well pup is not at risk. The other pup is also at risk, and even without symptoms can most definitely transmit parvo!

Don't give up hope!! We had a mother dog deliver 11 pups with parvo and 4 survived and were adopted out. It is very traumatic to have pups get sick and die. We kept each pup isolated as it fought off the parvo. Hang in there!

A dog with parvo is a DEAD DOG without treatment. If those puppies have been together, you can expect the other one to come down with it too as it is highly contagious. The right thing, and legal thing, to do is take them to a vet and get them treated. I'm sure he could work out a payment plan or do the humane thing and put them down. To allow them to suffer at home with a slow death is beyond cruel.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. I finally heard yesterday that Cherokee is on the mend

he has started eating and the other one(sorry don't know the name yet) never came down sick. I did find out that it was definitely parvo - vet said test came back strong positive. Also found out the pound they got them from is not a very good pound - dirty and has parvo problems a lot. I talked with a rescuer down there and she said one of the worst in the area.

Anyways just wanted to let everyone know that as of right now he is doing good.
