Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

To train the dog, lots of times we use just the wing or tail of the bird. Those birds are lucky to be alive! I trained my Brittany to sit still with the bird on her head. Started with a dog biscuit on the nose, then a wing. Then a live cockatiel. That was because she killed 2 chicks when she was young, needed to learn to not kill my birds.
They train the dogs to flush birds. So the pigeons are put in some contraption that flings them into the air... They shoot a starter pistol and the dog knows it did good. I don't know. The pigeons home so they generally get used again and again. They have quail too... beats me.

The dogs need to be rewarded with a bird. Lots of hunting, you never see a bird! I did not hunt with my hunting dog. I just was a member of the Brittany Club, and they have hunting classes that are very helpful with training your Brittany.
