Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

The dogs need to be rewarded with a bird. Lots of hunting, you never see a bird! I did not hunt with my hunting dog. I just was a member of the Brittany Club, and they have hunting classes that are very helpful with training your Brittany.
I actually don't know if they hunt. They do field trials... and do their best to ruin every one of my weekends with dog training. But that's another rant entirely.

Hello All,

I just caught up on my weekend reading. You guys have been busy! I'm ready to get back home from my business trip and play with my chickens.

I totally get the ethnic food for holidays thing. A lot of my family is from Texas but we're all in MO now. We're a mix of German/Scottish and Native American. Hubbs is Dutch. And for Christmas last year we had tamales and enchiladas- thanksgiving is gonna be a Mexican food event this year also! :lau

My mom's side of the family is mostly Polish/irish so we would always have stuffed cabbage, perogies and many, many different potato dishes at our family shindigs.

My husband's family has an odd tradition. His mother's father and his brothers were raised by missionary parents in India during the early 1900's. My MIL was born in Pakistan where her father and mother were stationed as missionaries. So that side of the family has a huge reunion every Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving day is fairly normal as far as food goes, Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, mac n' cheese, cranberry sauce, the works. But the day after Thanksgiving they have an "Indian" dinner complete with curries, dhal, mint yogurt, rice, etc. I used to not like spicy food, but now I can handle hotter Indian food than my husband can.

I love Indian food. One of my gfs is Indian. Her mother is from southern Indiana and her father is from Northern India. We always go to her house the day after Thanksgiving and enjoy the awesome food. Her sisters and brothers all come and let me tell you. She and her sisters can cook! Now I'm hungry for some lime pickle

I actually caught my hubby holding one of the bantams and talking to her in a sweet baby voice. Doesn't like them my ass!

Mine would NEVER do that! He asked me the other day if he should be concerned I talked to the dogs all the time. NO! I am here by myself most of the time, who else am I going to talk to other than my pets?

With all the rooster talk I hear, what drew you into keeping a flock of roosters? I have 18 chicks and I know I there are going to be lots of cockerels in the bunch.
I didn't want to give my roos away, so I started a rooster flock :D
I read that bantams don't count when it comes to chicken math. I have 2 and I figure each one equals 1/3 to 1/4 of a regular size chicken.
So, if a bantam = 1/4 a regular chicken, I only have.... 5.75 chickens!

I have six because I wanted four but everyone I talked to said get one or two EXTRAS "just in case". Lol.

And THIS, suddenly dawned on me!!!!!
I get such a kick out of all of you talking about your "chicken math" but always say to myself that doesn't apply to me because I am so fortunate to have what I have....
And then....
BINGO!
I STARTED with chicken math in the very beginning!

Now I suddenly feel, realty and truly like one of the group! Lololol
You have always been
