We use a kiddie pool for a dust bath. Need to when you have more than a few chickies wanting to bath at the same time. No tarp over it, but we have it tilted a bit AND DH drilled a buncha holes in the bottom. We used a mix of fine sand and concrete sand(?), well it's a bit bigger then fine sand. They use it.... but we still find holes around the edge of their run where they use regular old dirt to bathe in. It's funny when DS goes to *pet* one of them and a huge plum of dust rises up from them... like a mushroom cloud.

I use regular dirt mixed with ash but i haven't needed a container my chickens roam and i just put the ash where they bath

Still at just Mr. Squatch. No pics of videos of the Mrs yet, but some recipes posted if you keep reading! Lasagna, sauerkraut balls too I believe. A salad one as well.

Awww, such a cutie pie! She must be SO happy to be free of all that matted fur & the fleas!! You can tell that she is enjoying being back in a loving home!! Well done, well done indeed!

Now, as for the story of the guy hugging his dog & then abandoning it...that is just infuriating!! There is absolutely NO excuse for such conduct, given the number of shelters that will take in an animal.

People like that will get theirs & I will be in my lawnchair with a big bowl of popcorn watching the show, too!!

I can hear it now, "The Animal Abandonment, Cruelty & Abusers 'Come To Jeezus Meeting' is now in session!!!"

We can start anywhere really, but the highlights are going to be watching people who do bad things to chickens get a cosmic smack down. You all might be there watching, too. (If ya wanna see that show.) I'll be the one in front yelling "Yessir, zap him again! Give 'em one from the chicken in the undercover video...heck give 'em two zaps! Hang on...can I zap a couple too?" *Bam*, into oblivion they'll go...& good riddence!

Animal cruelty gets me going & CHICKEN cruelty, well that just gets me boiling mad.

Geeze, now I have to go kiss a chicken & calm down or I won't sleep easily.
(And I am not railing against the decision to use animals as a food source, just against their mistreatment.)

Thats what I was afraid of. I'll give her a couple days in the crate and if that doesn't work I'll get a crate. I'm at my limit of # of chickens so no egg sitting for me.

I give a broody only 1 or 2 eggs ...If she is going to be broody you might as well use her

Holy hell, does their poop stink.

I Feed them fermented feed ..then the poop doesnt smell as bad and deep litter I add fresh litter on top and circulate it some

I'm sure it can.....you could up the amount of jalapenos to make up for the lack of sausage

I love chorizo and it's available in soy. I switched to that so if I need to add sausage I can substitute in some recipes
