Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

THE LINK IS https://www.maangchi DOT com/recipe/easy-kimchi not sure why the link broke.

I have about 3-4 HUGE stock pots, simply for making bone broth and stock. During the autumn and winter months, we drink it for breakfast or a late night *snack*, with a scoop of collagen. Nothing, and I mean nothing, tastes better than a warm cup of broth on a chilly night. well, except a hot toddy! lolol

You DO realize, at any time you've eaten soup, you're eating something that most likely had *carcass* in it... right? :lau

Stuff like this is why I wanted to start raising our own meat. Once the law(?) passed that chickens could be sent overseas to China for processing :)sick:sick:sick), we stopped buying chicken altogether. We still have store bought chicken in our deep freezer, but only buy organic, locally raised and processed chicken (from the Amish) until we get our meat birds next year.
When you're ready to do meaties, I'd be happy to walk you through my process. 150 birds fed a family of six for a year. Need lots of freezer space though. One of these days I'll put in a couple of 12X24 walk-ins...

Good for you buying locally! I went to buy salmon the other day. The package was labeled: wild caught in the Pacific Northwest (in large print) and product of China (in small print). Not sure how those two can be possible at the same time...?
As for organic chicken, I saw a few months back that Whole Foods “free-range organic chicken” wasn’t quite what they were claiming:

I wish I knew where to buy local. I'm close to Amish country but they are not known for the treating their animals well.

I have a family member who raises cattle but I don't have the freezer space for that either.

I hear ya! Living in a small rural Iowa town, we had 2 choices...the small local Hyvee or Walmart. We also lived close to a large Amish community, but there were several times where local Amish families were actually prosecuted for abusing their animals, so I didn’t buy from them either!

OH. MY. GOD. That is simultaneously the most hilarious, and the sickest, thing I think I have ever seen in my whole entire life. Holy crap.

I showed it to my hub, who got as far as the part when they showed that veiny, gross balut egg. And he had to leave the room. And he is a meat eater, lol.

This guy is better than...Eminem, I think. Like, wow.

Respect!!!!

I love "free range organic". If you are free ranging how can you know they are eating organic? Was that grasshopper raised on organic food?

My family member with cows takes issue with "antibiotic free." So you let your cows get sick? Maybe infect the whole herd? Why not treat one responsibly...
usually the treat the sick and sell them as reg beef/pork

You can find a local farmer at through this link: http://apppa.org/

I would LOVE the help! DH has sworn off assisting the *cull*, so that's gonna be all me and my 8 y/o kiddo (my PIC, Partner In Chickens), but he is willing to do catching and processing. Right now, we have 9 viable eggs under our broody, hatching next weekend (around the 21st), which I'm sure is gonna produce more roos than we will *need*... so a processing is already in plans for about 12-15 weeks from now.

Sorry @pitbullmomma ... we eat chicken..... but trying to do it ethically.... and our chickens have a HUGELY wonderful life.... daily treats and play time with the PIC.... fermented food and clean water.
