Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

What about suspending the broody breaker cage too high for those bullys? Swaying up in the air would be enough to break broodiness, I would think. Plain wire that you can see through to the ground far below, is not the secure, dark nesting location of a chicken's dreams!

Ok. :goodpost:This is a GREAT IDEA.

After walking all around outside I think I'll need an extra set of hands to accomplish it.
maybe when DH gets home tonight from his business trip he could help me. :fl
*could be tired and cranky though- :barnie:hein which case tomorrow I'll be on a ladder or climbing a tree. :lau

I look at those toys, then find something cheaper and better in the used children's toys at the Goodwill! I have gotten old children's blocks there for $1.00, which is my limit for Dylan's toys! She likes the colored ones, but some are too big. Children's toys are safe to put in toddler's mouths, so I let her have those in colors. Lots of chew toys keep her feathers looking Good. If you notice in those Alex videos, they sometimes chew up their feathers. That was one of the criteria I had in looking at older birds, no pluckers! It is a habit that is almost impossible to break.

I like to buy toys for my dog at the Thrift Store too. After I wash it. Hahahaha. Like it really matters.

Update on the broody busting / crate dilemma.

In store price 59.99
Online sale price 49.99
Online purchase with instite pick up 1 hour later:
19.99!!!!

The 18 inch crate is plenty of room as a time out spot.
Probably very good if you wanted to limit mobility.

But... here's the but.

I put her outside and all the other girls came and jeered at her for bing in lockup
And one stuck her head through the crate to give her a poke.

I don't want this to become an
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
situation
So now we are back inside in a crate within a crate.

*cat is being relocated after I hit post.

Updated again to say now the chicken is in the bathroom.
She is gorgeous!!!

Throw a weighted fishing line over the tree limb, then use it to pull up a chain, rope, whatever is sturdy enough to support the cage. Where there is a will, there's a way! Anything beats a chicken in the bathroom . . .

:lau That's funny!

This reminds me of a funny story.

Back in 2004 or 2005ish, a coworker and I had to work at an event Houston, Tx. It was a dog event, so naturally, we had dogs with us.

We could smell that one of the two dogs with us (crated in the back part of an SUV) desperately needed to potty so we stopped and waited (and waited and waited and waited) for them to go and nothing ever happened so we figured false alarm.

So we loaded back up and proceeded to cross the atchafalaya basin bridge. The third longest bridge in the US.

And as you would expect, the 130# Cane Corso gave up the good fight and unleashed the smelly turd demon he had been wrestling with the entire time right in the crate while crossing the bridge. I think he only weighed 120# after that.

Luckily there are stops along the way so we didn't have to ride in the breath-stealing stench for the whole 18 or so miles, but we did ride for about 10 minutes or so, maybe a little longer, with the windows down, steadily gagging and dry heaving.

I guess it could have been worse. It could have been the causeway bridge!

Or a tunnel!

Vet update on Vinnie.

Four hours under anesthesia, 1 tooth lost :woot, but several tumors found :(. Samples and biopsies sent to the lab.

I had feared he would lose most of the teeth. Unfortunately what I was seeing in the mouth were ulcerations and possible cancer. When they found that they did a whole body work up. There are other tumors they sent samples from on the other end.

At least he is still with us. I will be his caretaker during the day since I am home.
Poor guy gonna be hurting for a while.

He is a tough one for the vet to examine. He is all Malamute and despises going to the vet. They kind of dread his visits too. :hugs I get it lol he is all ggggrrrrrr the whole time even in a muzzle.
I am super glad he made it through such a long knock out. Of course my son was beside himself all day.
I anticipate a grumpy dog for the next few days.

Wow! 4 hours is a long time for anything to be under anesthesia!
