Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Right? And I was scared to grab a hummingbird? Not many more though! I have to rescue them all the time from the garage.
My mom and I had to do that earlier this year. Apparently their instinct is to fly up to get out. Red things will lure them in, like the red release handles on garage door openers. That is what happened to the hummingbird we rescued, it flew in to try eating from the handle and couldn't get out. My mom found it perched on a nail on the side of the garage nearly starved to death. We fed it with a eyedropper for several hours and made her a perch by the feeder and it seemed to fly away fine. Here are some pictures of the little lady. My dad wrapped the handle in aluminum foil and it hasn't happened since.

I painted our handles black. We have a big red air compressor and maybe that is what draws them in. I try to hang the feeder by the door first and usually they come out. Otherwise I wait until dark and get a ladder to climb and grab them. Those little suckers are loud.
They fly in our glass door and sometimes die. I kept one over the weekend because it had broken his back(?) and couldn’t move his tail. I took him to a recue vet. I assumed they probably put him to sleep, because I don’t think he could be rehabed. But I don’t know for sure.

I saw that too.
This is the only forum I have ever been on. No one ever linked an instruction manual on any thread I had been on. So I still don't know the "rules".
I think there ARE rules somewhere because they were kind of referred to.... but honestly I never read anything like that.
I came to read the INTERESTING STUFF!
I was interested in LEARNING before I got my chickens!

Haha. Omg. Lolololol and lol some more. I can't stop giggling.
I wasn't here to be social:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau
Oh dear god.
I am gasping and laughing under the covers trying NOT to wake up DH!!!!! :duc:duc

See you peeps in the morning. G'night!

What age is it okay for the chicks to be without food and water at night? I think most of mine are around 6 weeks, so this is their first night without food and water.

6 weeks should completely be fine. When I moved my Littles flock outdoors, at 4 weeks, they no longer had food at night. WATER is a different story though. They need water 24/7.

@Parront , how's that trail camera doing? Find out who is peeing on your tires?

If you attached skids to the borrow and a pair of wheels you'd be good to go in an afternoon.
Maybe not a permanent structure for a "gang of girls"
But it would be an easy tractor to make.

Excellent idea.... and then it could be worked on to transform it into a bachelor pad or something.

I sat down to watch it but couldn't pry myself away from BYC.
I'll have to re watch it tomorrow morning BEFORE I get suckered in on here.

I've been a fan since day one.

BYC is the reason I want the PIC to read better. That way, we can go outside and I can work on the chicken area while he refreshes the site and reads everyone's posts to me! ;)

Come on!

What is the deal on the “Where did they come from” thread??? The thread is now tidy, stay on topic etc.

Looks like things got weird over there and it needed some clean up done.
 not sure why the stay on topic thing came up. Most threads that don't involve injury, illness or predation end up pretty random.

I guess we are still under the radar so all is OK. At least here.
I do think her catching and housing the birds is pretty darn decent.

That was such an incredible story. I am so proud of that lady !
There was a thread about it a few days ago.
And it sounded as though some people didn't approve of us (our title came up) I got the impression about chatting forever and being off topic and how to keep a thread on topic. And there was a poster or two who, I got the impression felt we should move our conversation to another place. They way I felt after reading --? was that some people thought it would give the site a bad name maybe???? I don't know because I'm still new. I joined in Jan but didn't participate. Just read.
And I've never been active on a forum before except a long time ago on a Disney one . I don't know the "who's who".

This thread was brought up in another thread started by someone in the FEEDBACK section. Unfortunately, I feel someone decidedly attacked myself and @granny hatchet personally, and then tried to wrap it up as a *things have their place and this is NOT the place to be socializin*. Whatever. I sent the owner of THIS POST, @theuglychick , a PM to make sure we, as a whole, hadn't jacked her thread. As she is wonderfully nice, she was completely on board with us using this thread to chit chat and cluck. This is what lead to the changing of this threads title, so others wouldn't bitch about having to wade through our blathering just to find out about the Squatchs.

See you peeps in the morning. G'night!

You are a goober, but totally right. In my own personal experiences, when I see newbies post, they either joined to be SOCIAL (90% of the joiners), or posting because of an emergency.... who get an answer and then won't post again. I joined because I liked the socializing... and I joined so I could reply and be a smart ass..... :D

This is probably the first group of people I have been a part of online, where I really feel like we could all go out to dinner, have a few drinks, talk chickens/family/goals, and everyone would have a good time! No one taking a billion pics to post on FB or Instagram..... and we'd hug instead of shake hands.....

OK that's it!!! Meet up at Bob's place for Valentines Day!!!:wee
