My mom and I had to do that earlier this year. Apparently their instinct is to fly up to get out. Red things will lure them in, like the red release handles on garage door openers. That is what happened to the hummingbird we rescued, it flew in to try eating from the handle and couldn't get out. My mom found it perched on a nail on the side of the garage nearly starved to death. We fed it with a eyedropper for several hours and made her a perch by the feeder and it seemed to fly away fine. Here are some pictures of the little lady. My dad wrapped the handle in aluminum foil and it hasn't happened since.Right? And I was scared to grab a hummingbird? Not many more though! I have to rescue them all the time from the garage.
I think there ARE rules somewhere because they were kind of referred to.... but honestly I never read anything like that.I saw that too.
This is the only forum I have ever been on. No one ever linked an instruction manual on any thread I had been on. So I still don't know the "rules".
What age is it okay for the chicks to be without food and water at night? I think most of mine are around 6 weeks, so this is their first night without food and water.
If you attached skids to the borrow and a pair of wheels you'd be good to go in an afternoon.
Maybe not a permanent structure for a "gang of girls"
But it would be an easy tractor to make.
I sat down to watch it but couldn't pry myself away from BYC.
I'll have to re watch it tomorrow morning BEFORE I get suckered in on here.
I've been a fan since day one.
Come on!
What is the deal on the “Where did they come from” thread??? The thread is now tidy, stay on topic etc.
Looks like things got weird over there and it needed some clean up done.
not sure why the stay on topic thing came up. Most threads that don't involve injury, illness or predation end up pretty random.
I guess we are still under the radar so all is OK. At least here.
I do think her catching and housing the birds is pretty darn decent.
That was such an incredible story. I am so proud of that lady !
There was a thread about it a few days ago.
And it sounded as though some people didn't approve of us (our title came up) I got the impression about chatting forever and being off topic and how to keep a thread on topic. And there was a poster or two who, I got the impression felt we should move our conversation to another place. They way I felt after reading --? was that some people thought it would give the site a bad name maybe???? I don't know because I'm still new. I joined in Jan but didn't participate. Just read.
And I've never been active on a forum before except a long time ago on a Disney one . I don't know the "who's who".
