Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

They got a HUGE dose of fermented feed.... I was just using the corn as *crack* ... bait if you will... just to show them they are in a better place..... they are in an enclosure on grass, with a dust bath, fresh water and fresh food. And some electrolytes in their water.

Triple sow cow here... and I have a fitbit!!!
I think I friended you. Sassysouth is my name

This could be a good thing and it could be a bad thing.
Bad only if she gets TOO much of these things and fills up on them before she gets enough of the complete feed.
I know it doesn't quite make sense and I haven't figured out a good way of explaining it just yet but it really is better for them to eat just a complete feed daily and every now and then a treat or two.
Not daily.
I don't give them a lot . Just one pan to share amung the 9 of them Usually greens and some fruit or another veggie scattered in. On the days they can free range for more than just an few hours, I don't give them any. They of course always have feed available.

Or (more likely) a hot spot.

If you have a pair of clippers (like groomers use or like a guy uses to shave, an electric one) if you can find someone to hold her down, clip the area, then clean it, and send a pic....is she scratching it? Wish you lived by me, I'd hook you up with some antibiotics and pred, if that's what it is....

No clippers. I tried trimming the fur with scissors but.... wow, she's strong. I just see some redness and a little swelling. I'm wondering if she got something stuck under her collar and it rubbed and irritated that spot. She's a tough girl so I didn't notice her acting strange.

I found it when she rolled in the grass, and assuming she rolled in something gross, I grabbed her collar and smelled her. Her fur was sticky and so was her collar. That's when I found whatever it is.

Hot compress better than cold if it is an infection of some sort...

She seems to like the cold. It must be soothing. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Interesting May have to consider that in the future.

Good to hear...now I might be able to sleep tonight.
Thanks.
