anyone have more info on this coop on ebay?

I bought a wonderful coop through Craig's List from a young man that got FFA credit for High School. Goodness sakes, it's professionally made and will probably last longer than alot of stuff.

I kind of did what wingingit suggested. I had a high school boy make me one and the thing is solid as a brick. He actually had an add in the paper and was looking for work over the summer and said he was good at building stuff. He built me a huge coop and outside run for $400. I'm sure if you contacted some type of handyman or even did like winginit said, maybe contact the high school and see if any of the kids are interested in building you one. I'm sure for a lot less your going to get a really nice coop. And something that is sturdy. I'm thinking anything that can be sent in the mail is going to be a bit flimsy.

Oh yeah...they try to sneak in those measurements. The housing part is smaller than most dog houses. I would never go less than 4 sq. ft. per LF chicken for housing, and that TOTAL measurement is barely above 4 sq. feet (in the housing). I wouldn't keep 8 tiny bantams in there.
A lot of people have been reporting good luck with finding cheap playhouses and such on CL recently...I'd watch it daily. You want to look for something close to 6 ft. x 6 ft. for that number of birds (for the housing).

Just be carefull, most builders of chicken coops greatly over estimate the amount of full size chickens that a coop will comfortably house.

Here is a simple formula that you can use for area per chicken (minimum):

Indoor space: Multiply number of chickens by 2.5 to get the MINIMUM square feet of floor space. Your example would be 8 X 2.5 = 20 sqft or approximatly a 4 X 5 floor area. Anything smaller can lead to pecking or health problems.

Outdoor space: Multiply the number of chickens by 4, 5, or 6.

You will need extra room especially if you are gone for the weekend.

Also remember chicken mathmatics.

And in this case BIGGER is BETTER!
