Anyone have problems with ordering chicks from McMurrey Hatchery?

You said that the PO called on Monday, but it was too far to go pick them up... does that mean that they were delivered to you? Did they ride around all day with a mail carrier? I did have a substiture carrier decide to deliver some poults to me (the ones in a box marked 'CALL ON ARRIVAL') and there were 7 dead in the box. I always go pick my birds up when they call, but the PO is only 20 miles away...

Our first batch from MMH the post office called us on sunday and we picked them up. we ordered 25 BO got 26 and the free rare chick. They all were alive and very lively. We ended up having to cull 7 of the BO (our fault before I found this site, I feel terrible because of it) for spradle leg.......

Our second batch we ordered 25 cornish X and got 26 and free rare chick, They were livley and doing well when we recieved them, They are all still thriving and doing well, thanks in part to this site!!!

MM is quite a distance from you, that's more than likely the reason for the stress and pasty butts. I got my MM chicks 6 weeks ago, and I had to go pick them up in 40 degree weather and I only lost one. The rest are still alive and doing beautifully.

/I recieved my chicks on March 31(I cannot believe it was that long ago!) and all were very healthy and active. There was one that was a little runty and I was worried about but she was the pluckiest of the bunch and is fine. I ordered the brown egg layer collection + the mystery chick. I recieved 26 chicks in all. Mine were born on Friday(28th), shipped the 29th and I got a call at 7 a.m. on Monday here in texas.

I have been very happy with my chicks and would order from them again. I have only lost one and that was to a dog.

I think that the stress just got to them, look on the box and it will tell you when they were hatched. I hope the ones you have left make it.

I got an order of 25 Cornish X chicks from McMurray. My PO called on Sunday, Mother's Day (windy and very cool day)and I picked them up. They were loud and boisterous and still are. lol McMurray sent an extra Cornish X and a "mystery" chick. I had them vaccinated for Coccidia and got the vitamins for their water.

They are doing GREAT, almost 3 weeks old! I have to clean up after them twice a day but they are butterballs already. Am very happy with my order from McMurray.

I've ordered chicks from MM for years- all before this year when I got my 2 incubators that is- and always had great luck. I've ordered Rainbow layers, Rarest of the Rare, Ornamental, etc...and always got at least 1 free chick. In fact, last time, I got 3 extra Sultans and Sumatras. I've had a few (3 at most) die a day or two after arriving, but were always reimbursed for them. I've always been called by my PO on Sunday morning to pick them up too, except when that fell on Easter Day and then they called Monday morning and the chicks were fine. If I ever do have to order from a hatchery again, I'll go with them again. don't plan to though, as I have all the best connections for eggs and chicks right here now.

I ordered my chickens from McMurray. I was thrilled the post office called on Sunday and let us pick them right up. I think having them that extra day made a big difference. All of them were active and began eating and drinking right away. It is almost 4 weeks and they are getting huge. I had two with rear pasting a couple days after I got them- but I was able to get them cleaned up and they were fine. I received a white crested black polish as my exotic and she is doing fine.(Much different personality than the RIR's. ) I couldn't have been happier with the hatchery. They were very helpful when I was ordering and the chicks arrived in perfect condition!

The post office that called us was one that they were currently at but was going to be sent to the post office in our town. I'm assuming it was some workers that were sorting through the mail since the post office wasn't actually open but said we could pick them up if we wanted to before they left in a hour which wasn't enough time to drive there. Our post office in town called at 8-8:30am and said they had them and we went and picked them up right then. I checked both groups of chicks last night before going to bed and the smaller ones looked to be doing good and were laying around cleaning themselves and resting. My boyfriend's dad checked them when he woke up during the night and said they were doing good and he went out to milk. When I got up he has not been in yet and I looked in the box and 2 of them were dead. They were two of the first 3 we took out of the group. I gave the small chicks sugar water once (just a tiny bit) and haven't gave it to them anymore since they looked good. I checked the other group and they were still good. I don't know why the other 2 died. The box was warm enough and they had plenty of food and water. When we took the bodies out they must of been dead for a little while but were warm from the light. We had an area in the box with less heat incase they got to hot so I don't know if maybe they fell asleep (look like they died in their sleep) and the other chicks might of laid on them and they got to hot but didn't move. Hard to figure out but I've been babying the others and became attached to one. It hopped onto my hand and laid on it quite a few times but also kept pecking my fingers. It looks like a nice fat one. There are a couple other chicks just like it and it is the biggest. Once they get bigger I'll be trying to figure our the breeds so I'll probably post pictures of them to see if anyone knows what kind they are. There is one that is yellow with a oval shaped black spot on its back with feathers on its legs that has puffy cheeks that is cute and definitely a piggy. Keeps eating nonstop and looks huge compared to last night. I think we have some of the polish ones and I've noticed they seem to run after your fingers and peck them. Hopefully they aren't mean when they get big.

Got an order from McMurrays on the 19th of May. We had to wait 2 + months for them to be ready, but they came right on time .
We got the rainbow layers collection. Supposed to be all pullets. Time will tell.
All the chicks were healthy happy and active.
Split the 25 with a friend and hers are doing great as well.
Sorry for your misfortune.
Hope that you have better luck next time.

Murray McMurray mailed my order of 25 on a Saturday morning, Priority Mail. Post Office called me SUNDAY morning, 10:30 AM, saying come and get 'em. From Iowa to its destination in eastern Tennessee in around 24 hours, NICE. Inside the box were 27 happy chicks. (got an extra Buff Orpington *and* Araucana, may have gotten someone else's free chick?).

So, props to the post office for delivering so quickly, and to McMurray for sending 27 healthy ones.
