Anyone have Welsh crossed with swedish?

Quote:
My swedish was bought at an Agway and was supposed to be a blue...along with her two siblings, one who died on day two and the other who looked to be a rouen swed cross was killed by a hawk at 8 weeks. So Henry is quite possibly a cross though she is black with bib and actually has some bright blue wing feathers...(rouen genes perhaps?)

So the only way I will know if she is pure is if all of her babies feather out black? You are so knowledgeable...I could talk to you all day!

I dont think she has any rouen in her. But she could.

If all of them are solid black and you get a reasonable number of them them it's a fair guess that she has two doses of the Black gene (in other words she is homozygous for Extended Black). She looks like a nice solid duck, as Swedish should be. She doesn't have any white flight feathers but plenty of Swedish don't...(one of mine doesn't an I still put her in shows and she gets taken reasonably seriously by judges). Bib a bit messy and some white round the bill but that's not unusual and does not mean she is not pure - it just means her markings are not as neat as they could be.

Have a look under her wings - do you see any brown there, especially brown lacing on the feathers? If she has that it'd be a sign of a bit of impurity but I'd be guessing if I was to say exactly what causes it. I only know a little bit, really.

Here she is as I promised (sorry it took me so long to get some pics up on here!)
As you can see, she has a bib like a swedish, but she's a dark chocolate color. She also has facial striping, though I'm not sure where that came from. Her mother is a black swedish and her father is a khaki campbell. Out of 7 eggs, I ended up with 3 females that looked like this and 4 males. The males were all black with white bibs, just like a swedish.

She's a good looking duck!! Nice bib. She's got one dose of sex-linked Chocolate or Brown dilution from her Dad which is enough to turn black to chocolate in a female.
