I have finally found a local person with light Sussex chicks.

I have added a few of them to my order. I am trying to make sure all of my babies arrive the first week of May. I don't want any picking on smaller chicks. So far I have: 4 Buff Orpingtons, 4 Barred Rocks, 3 Red Stars, 2 Black Stars, 2 Rhodies, 5 Speckled Sussex, 3 Black Australorps, 3 Gold Comets, and now 8 straight run light Sussex all ordered for the first week of May. I found the ACV last night at Wal-mart with the "of the mother". I am very excited and nervous because my coop isn't started. My brooder I can have ready rather quickly. Also, thanks to everyone who posted pics of their coop designs. I have borrowed several ideas from everyone.

My chicks shipped Tuesday from 5 1/2 hours away ( I know postal service routes :idunno  ). The last scan was Tuesday evening and the arrival date per post office is Friday, Ugh. That doesn't even make since. I sure with someone would scan something, I would love to know where they are. Its getting pretty warm out there.

I know, mine are shipping next Wednesday and will arrive either Friday or Saturday.  They are only 7 hours away, almost tempted to go and pick them up.:th

They came today , tracking never updated until 3 hours after I picked them up. All happy and chirping. All started eating and drinking right away.

I'm so ready!!! The coop is almost finished. My brooder is ready. I can't wait!!

I have 5 Buckeye pullets, 5 Dominique pullets, and one unknown pullet coming from Meyer. It's that Meyer Meal Maker chick. So, a surprise! I also have 12 straight run Buckeyes coming from a small hatchery.

My Meyer girls should be here next week!!!!

I'm sorely tempted by the Welsummers at TSC right now...but I'm restraining....I think....

We have ordered through our local farm store. They are expected to come in mid-May and it seems so far away.

We ordered:
2 Speckled Sussex
2 Barred Rock
2 Easter Eggers
I already have 4 BO's that will be 2 yrs old in May.

Of course I've been researching like crazy trying to see if there are distinguishing markings between boys and girls for my chosen breeds but I think I have made my mind mush with too much research, lol. I'm almost at the point of just letting the girl at the store pick them for me. I just want to avoid getting any roo's as much as possible.

We are also building a new, bigger coop.
I'm super excited building one from scratch so I can set it up just the way I want.

I ordered from a hatchery in order to hopefully get just hens, although I know it is not 100% it is a better chance than guessing at the chicks in a straight run bin.
