Anyone in WV???

Hello all,

I'm a bit late to this thread but im about 30 min south of Buckhannon WV, currently have a new mixed flock of 30 birds, Easter Eggers, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Lavender Orpingtons, Blue Plymouth Rock and ISA Browns, have a few more breeds on order they will be arriving later in the year.

We have kyotes, possums and racoons but fortunately they dont like our dogs, im more worried about all the hawks and the neighbors dogs that tend to wander onto our field like they own it.

Nice to meet you! I have a Delaware rooster and 5 hens and ordered 8 more dominique & delaware pullets. Started making a brooder and grow out pen for the chicks yesterday. Hopefully by attaching it to the main run the pullets will be easier to integrate into the main flock . I raise auto sexed breeds so I can sex the chicks earlier!(practical minded lol) You have some beautiful breeds in your flock! I would love to have some easter eggers!

Auto sexing breeds are nice im looking at getting some bielefelders next year for that reason, I already placed my order for this year and my hubby already thinks i went a bit overboard, I am getting some buff orpingtons, black australorps, barred rock, blue laced red wyandottes and some more easter eggers.

Im also trying some hatching eggs, light brahmas, and some more blue plymouth rocks and silver laced wyandottes, I like to try and have 10 pullets and 1 roo of each that way I can suffer a couple of losses due to preditors, if one of may lavender orpingtons doesnt turn out to be a roo I will have to order one next year lol.

I don't have room to keep so many different breeds but I would love to have welbars. Thinking about ordering some off of privetts and selling what I don't need to get started. Minimum 25

Heres a link how to breed for w welbar. You cross a welsummer rooster to a barred rock hen (to add the barred gene) You'll get several colors of chicks when the chicks hatch. Save ONLY the best black barred cockerel chick out of this hatch .You want to breed this cockerel to a welsummer hen .The chicks will be welbars .Breed these chicks together to raise welbars. http://jsh.bravesites.com/welbars#:~:text=The hens are very similar,to equal the best Welsummer

We are in the process of building a chicken village, each breed will have their own coop with run, If i did my math right we need 11 coops and 2 duck houses, I will let the hens free range and have the roos stay in the runs that way I dont get any unplanned crosses.

Fortunately we have plenty of space and im hoping the chickens will help get rid of all the ticks and other bugs we have.

Welbars seem like a great auto sexing breed, I might do a long term project to try and create them here if that fails i will probably buy some lol.
