Anyone into rare or exotic?

My banana are in a sheltered area where wind doesn't hurt them.

Some passiflora have to be hand pollinated. The p.edulis sometimes require mason or carpenter bees. I use a sable eye shadow brush to pollinate mine.

I'm going to try permaculture and let everything live symbiotic for better production and water conservation. A jungle is what I'd really like.

Since I working on expending my fruit and vegetable Garden, I ordered a few more exotics too. You all inspired me.
Today a started Marula tree and a Miracle Plant should arrive. I also bought some Guava plants (Strawberry and Pineapple) ,two Lychee Trees and one Pepino Melon Plant. Can`t wait to put all the awesome plants into my garden.

Does the hand pollinating need to be between two separate plants or can be done on the same vine? That might be my problem with not getting fruit is I need another plant?

Cool selection. Do you or anyone else have star fruit? I have a little one that is two years old and is about 3 feet and has not done dittely squat.

I was wondering if anyone has advice from a dry climate on how they keep their angle trumpets watered. They are some of the most water hogging plants I own. I just dug uo my two largest ones and put them in a pot that drains very slow. I have read that they can not sit in water and that they will rot. But it seems that's how they like it here?

Any thoughts? Was thinking about adding water retention crystals but again I am scared of rotting out all my hard work on those beauties. So worth the effort when in bloom. Last Christmas we had brought one into the house to protect from freezing and it bloomed about 40 flowers. The house smelled amazing and we hung pretty glass ornaments on it for our x-mas tree. I love me a tropical Christmas.

I really need to move to the tropics so my addiction is complete!

Edulis can pollinate itself but there are some that have to have pollen from another. Not sure which those are but pretty sure it is the more exotic flowering and not edible fruiting types, but please do not quote me.

No not yet. Think I need to wait till next month. I heard about homegrown star fruits they are not to compare at all to the supermarket stuff.
Oh Italia, I just saw you live in Texas too. Do you have experience with Hazelnut Trees/Bushes? Would like to get some, but I am worried it would be to hot for them.

Yes I thought about the same problem too. You ever heard about clay Ollas? It is like a Amphora, you dig it close to your plants in the ground and fill it with water. And thru the clay the plant gets always water.

I have a star fruit tree. It is in a pot. I don't know how old it is because I bought the tree at a farmer's market. It bears nice sweet juicy fruit. They can take a little shade and still flower so if yours is getting plenty of sun, it should fruit if it is old enough. Was your from a seed? I am not sure how long they take to flower from seed. The starfruit I have had from the supermarket are much more bland than the ones from our little tree. I have to find them before our turkeys do because they LOVE the starfruits and will even try and get their big fat bodies up onto the large pot to reach the higher ones.

You can pollinate the yellow passionfruit flowers with the purple edible ones. You can also pollinate with the blue Caerulea passionflower I believe Incense works as well. The regular maypop variety, "Incarnata" should work. Incarnata is an edible variety that is a little more cold hardy but not as flavorful. I know there are others, just can't think of them right now lol.
