Anyone into rare or exotic?

That is a New Zealand Purple Castor Bean plant. They don't overwinter where I live but they reseed everywhere in my yard. They only get around 12 to 15ft tall by the first frost in TN. They are not one of the Giants. I had one of the Zanzabars over 30ft a few years ago. I planted it in the house in a pot in November and planted it outside in the spring. I get them at least 25ft or more doing them this way. I would of had some that tall this year but my niece cut them down with the weedeater. I have at over 40 clumps of bananas in my yard.

Hmmm... new Zealand cultivar? This makes me realize two things. One is I did not know that their were different ones. Two, I have no clue what mine is. I got the seeds from a public garden I worked at years ago. I just love them for a hardy but tropical look. Well, I will dig a few up and store them and see how big they get next year. The thought of a thirty foot tall one totally makes me drool. I am very careful with the seeds as they are poisonous. I caught one of my dogs with a proud offering of a bunch of prickely seed pods beside my feet. I now cut them off before dropping. I imagine this would be more of a task when the plant is 30ft. Sheeze........... the things you do to enjoy a beautiful garden.

I'm off to do a google search to find giant seeds. Thanks for the info!
