Anyone know what breed this rooster is?

Is your rooster being a gentleman and not breeding his hens in front of your or are the eggs from the hens he is with not fertile?

I agree, he looks like a Golden Lakenvelder mix. How have you come to the conclusion about his infertility? Have you not seen him breed the hens or have you incubated eggs and they never hatched? Roosters can be quite sneaky in their mating habits

I haven't concluded anything! I was just wondering why there have never been chicks after 2 1/2 almost 3 years. He has 1 Austrlorp, 1 BSL, 1 EE, 1 Cornish Rock, 2 buff Cochins, ! white Leghorn, 1 NHR and 1 little brown mix to choose from.

have you cracked an egg open and look at the yolk if it is fertile you will see a blastoderm which is a white circle that can be as round as a unused pencil eraser or smaller. i have put a picture to give you an example.

Blastodisc - infertile
Blastoderm - fertile

goodluck!

Well, if the girls haven't gone broody, that's the girls' fault, not his. :) If you want chicks, get a silkie hen, or almost any other type of bantam. She'll hatch everyone's eggs for you! If they have gone broody or you have incubated, and nothing ever hatches, he may just be infertile, like others have said. It just happens sometimes.

He's gorgeous, though! Absolutely beautiful!

The majority of my eggs go to my daughter and her family, but I check each 1 that I use. Have seen no indication that they are fertilized (not to say I couldn't have missed something). The EE and the litle brown mix have each gone broody twice and after 24 days (the EE) and 25 days (little brown) nothing hatched. Thank-you all for your responses!
