I pick most of the tomato hornworms off my tomatoes but some always escape.
If I am lucky, those hornworms are visited by a parasitic wasp and you get something that looks like this---DON'T SMASH THIS!!! The larvae of the braconid wasp feed off the hornworms and come back next year for more.
As ugly as it is, this is a good thing. A pic I took a few weeks ago:

Did you know that there is a research that have proven that the TOMATOES PLANTS secret some volatile substance to the air that atract the parasitic wasps, while they are atact by the caterpillars ? Have read it in "Scientific American " many years ago!

Or how bout the first person who decided to lick a hallucinogenic toad. Really???? What was he thinking????? Agreed, I find it fascinating to see life from outside the tiny little box that we in America call "normal". Normal diet for me is probably totally bland or disgusting to someone from an other country.

Not the same specie, but I once found a bunch of tiny green and brown caterpillars (same specie, just variants) on the catnip plant, and them having spread to the mint plants. Lets just say... The baby quail had a right treat as I picked the caterpillars off and dropped them in the brooder. I missed 3 which I could never locate due to them blending in so well, but did find the 3 young moths of the same specie of the 'pillars hanging around in the house, which I caught and released outside.
