Anyone listen to National Public Radio?

Thanks for posting this! I've been at ends lately because my go-to station has... changed it's programming.

I looked up what stations broadcast NPR near me, and they're all FM! Noooo. My radio hasn't gone to FM for YEARS. It's stayed stuck on AM for Coast to Coast forever. I also like the local programs we have around here. We have one for gardening, auto, realty, DIY, and one that just interviews local small business owners. But maybe I'll flip the switch to FM. Sigh.

NPR is the ONLY station I listen too. I LOVE the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday afternoons. I do not always listen to it because we go to the movie theater and watch the show live! It is so cool.

Big NPR fan here too, in Boston we have two NPR stations, WBUR does news and WGBH does arts and entertainment. NPR also just created a free iTunes/iPhone app that links to every NPR station in the country.

The only show I'm not crazy about is Marketplace; I think its simple minded in its financial reporting and the smug, know-it-all tone of Kai Ryssdal really irritates me. But as friend of mine who works in public radio says, "What do you expect from a business show produced in Los Angeles?” .

I also like BBC World Service quite a bit for international news that doesn’t get reported here in the US. Americans are extremely xenophobic about news and it’s great to hear a different perspective on world events.

My chickens listen to NPR 24/7. Tends to keep the night varmints away. DH was out there working one day and changed the radio to something else and egg production went WAY down. They were playing some weird stuff at night. I finally realized it after about a week and changed the channel back. And they were happy layers again.
Coincidence? I think not...

I have a two hour daily commute. Hour each way and my radio is always on NPR. When we travel we listen to the local NPR until we get out of range then listen to books on tape.

I listed to WBUR, too! (Sometimes I listen to WGBH.) I looove it!

I totally agree with you on Marketplace, but NPR can't be perfect!

I must say, I do a great imitation of Kai Ryssdal, though...

I'm not crazy about the BBC, mostly because it's on when I'm thinking about the end of the weekend (Sunday). I do a great imitation of that too!

I leave NPR on for my rabbit in the morning, for my dog all day, and for my chickens when they are isolated in the garage if they're sick!

But I like Kai Ryssdal.

Marketplace is about the only show my husband really looks for.

Interesting experiment: three coops, two with radio, one without. 10 hens of identical age and breed in each coop. Who lays more

So the question is, which two stations do we choose?
