I get you Deb, I just wish one of us at this house at least remotely handy. It would be nice not to have to pay for every "honey do" that needs done. Neither of us has the skills or interest to be good at this. I'm slightly better at somethings than dh, but he gets to fix the toilets.

I have to call the sprinkler guy because we both tried and failed to fix that. We also managed to put the run fence on one of the sprinkler heads....oops! It would also be nice if one of us had less tolerance for dirt.

At our house, we trade off on bill paying and handling the money because we both figure that we need to know where it goes, what we spend and how to take care of things. I do most of the house work and cooking, but I've chosen that by being a stay at home mom. I also volunteer a great deal at my kid's schools. I also do the gardening, but he gets to rake and bag leaves in the back. He gets the backyard, the big yard, because of a perennial problem with poison ivy. DS was going to do the yard, to earn some extra money, but he has the same poison ivy issue as I do. He does scouts with the boys, and I ferry them to other activities. We both have our own hobbies, and do things with friends, both together and apart. I could not imagine life if he made all the descisions and choices.

pardon my spelling, I'm too lazy to look things up. When they were handing out spelling skills I got in the wrong line.

I am not noticing any spelling mistakes but then I am not looking for the either. If you click on your post and right click, a little box should come up. It should have several options and about the seventh one down should be spelling. I spell horribly so I make frequent use of spell check.

Oh, and I agree, Mom's folly, both people in a relationship should understand where their money is going. Having been a military wife, I know how important it is to be aware of your finances for both men and women.

mom'sfolly :

Public schools are not allowed to say "God does this or that". It is advocating religion, and a clear constitutional violation. I would recommend talking to the vice-principal or principal because the teacher obviously sees nothing wrong with it. In a public school environment is perfectly acceptable for a teacher or a child to say a personal grace over a meal, or a personal prayer. It is not all right to a teacher to pray for a classroom group or to say "God makes the flowers grow". When a teacher or an administrator prays or uses God while teaching it is a clear violation.

This being said, you might have to pick your battles. You may want to request a different kindergarten teacher for your child siting "personal reasons" or "personality" conflicts. This gets your child a new teacher without you coming off as an "anti-Christian nutjob". While this does not address the issues at your school, it does give your child a break from a message you don't approve of, and is illegal coming from school. It also gives you the room to decide if this is something you want to make a stink about. Yes it is clearly a violation, but it may make the school a very hostile environment for you and your child, and set your rural community against you.

Thanks for the advice and I agree with you about picking your battles. I did think about changing teachers for her, but, her teacher is the ONLY kindergarten teacher at the school, its very small. So I have been trying to explain things to her if she comes home with any comments in a scientific manner. It still is upsetting and it makes me want to blow my top sometimes.

My neighbor is normally very reasonable, but recently she expressed annoyance that the teachers in her church can't openly talk about God with students unless those kids ask them questions first.

My friend is so open minded that her anger startled me. She really does not understand that prostelyzing should not be allowed in a government run school. It is like we are talking different alien languages on this one issue. I can't understand her stance and she can't understand mine.

I understand the use of analogy, metaphors etc as a means to express deeper concepts.

Lately though I have heard a lot of talk using warlike imagery among my religious friends-(we are fighing a battle against good and evil. We are Christian soldiers) Has anyone noticed this trend?

I have noticed this too. I just figured it may have something to due with the financial strain people are under now. It seems like when things get bad,..people reach deeper for their religion.

It would be nice if they reached for the parts of religion that speak about loving one another.

I didn't read through all the posts, so I'm hoping I'm not off topic. I consider myself not a believer in "organized religion" but I don't consider myself non religious. I guess it's just a different way of explaining it. I am on the spiritual side and have a lot of faith in what I believe in. I do think that some people need organized religion and if it helps them in their day to day lives that's great. But my day to day help comes from the beauty around me as in landscape, sky and good people and my animals. The beauty of a sunset, feeling the fresh mowed grass under your feet, seeing the joy on my grandchildren's faces. All of these things bring joy to me. I also do not believe in HELL. If god loves all of us and forgives all of us, then why would anyone be in hell, although my thought is that we are living in it and just working hard to reach that place where all is beautiful and peaceful.
