I think you are right. I couldn't quite tell from the title and description if it was religious or not and probably would not have gone to see it based on that alone. Now I'd love to see it! Do they have a web site so I can see where and when they are going to be performing near me?

Ewesheep, I agree with Mom's folly. I doubt there is anything you could say to your SIL to get her to see things from the other person's perspective. She will just assume that anyone who gets offended by her religious references is that much more in need of them, since they obviously haven't got a personal relationship with the Lord, and she will try even harder to "save" these heathens who just don't understand yet.

My soon to be SIL (son-in-law) is only tolerant of my heathen views because he is sure I still have time to see the "error" of my ways and to "accept the Lord Jesus as my savior".
Jeez, I just had a terrible thought. If I don't die suddenly, my death bed scene could get really ugly!

Here's the website: http://www.thesphericalweproductions.com/page4/thedaughterseminar.html

It
may be a little while before it gets out there but you can check on the progress at least.

Thank you!

What is a Unitarian Church like?

My DH and I were married by a Unitarian minister. She was awesome! She read a Native American Wedding prayer and stayed away from any talk of a male diety just like we asked. Her answer (when we first met with her) to our comment that we were not religious was "Well you must be spritual then or you wouldn't care about getting married in front of all your friends and family, so we have a lot more in common than you think." She really was a jewel!!!

I have never been to one. (We are planning on going to check it out soon though. Wanting our boys to get some kind of "church" once in a while..

Friends say we have a great one in our town. Many folks whom I respect their views go occasionally.

A friend told me about a recent visit, where the sermon was about a young prince who was to get married, but did not like any of the girls brought to him, as he was in love with a man. Apparently the sermon was fresh and uplifting...

It is my understanding Unitarians are very open to all race, sexuality, and religious beliefs and backgrounds. Essentially bringing "unity" to the diverse folks that attend.

Hopefully, some one that knows more about it can explain it better..

not trying to be sarcastic or facetious, but just had to chuckle after reading this description of Unitarionism. It reminds me of what my hubby always says to me when I want to do something. He says "Do what you want, you will anyway." This makes Unitarionism sound like almost anything you do is ok. I'm surely missing something, but.....

I attended one a few times and while I found nothing offensive, the minister was b-o-r-i-n-g!! Guess that happens in all churches at some point, eh? Anyway, I googled Unity Church beliefs and this was closest to what I remember from my few visits.

hmmm. So they ARE a Christian group. I could never quite figure that out from the bits and pieces I'd heard over the years. One more to cross off my list.

Thanks for the link.

I'm not sure I'd call them Christian (probably why I like the group).
Most mainstream Christians would not consider Unitarians to be Christians. Mainstream Christians tend to get a little uppity if you suggest that Jesus was a man.

Last time I looked Jesus was a man.....back in those days, women would be considered inferior like Eve was. Or she was the fruit of temptation. I can not imagine Jesus being a woman unless you are talking about Mother Theresa

I just wanted to chime in and say i am spiritual and I have a religion it is organized but not by men in robes that carry books and wear funny hats. I organized my own religion based on my spirituality. it is the religion of me and my spirituality is simply that god is love and the goodness in life. God is not a he but a what.. it is the love we give it is the good we do. it is the joy my chickens bring me and the cycle of life.. including death. it is the smell of rain in the forest and the sound of the ocean rolling into the shore. it is my children's laughter and warm feeling i get when someone says something kind. that is it for me my religion in a nutshell. I live my life based on this belief and try to do as little harm as possible and try to reflect on the beauty in life as often as i can... lemonade out of lemons and so forth. anyway i appreciate that others feel differently and that is okay becasue i can only speak for my truth not your truth. and you know your truth by how you feel. So live life to the fullest and keep a smile in your heart there is one in mine for you.
