anyone notice anything different at Wal-mart (LONG RANT)

Same here, lots of time there the only place to go. I try to go to locally owned businesses as much as possible. I will go to the hardware store and pay a little more but I cant afford alot more. I have put in applications at walmart and received not as much as a call. I have a retail and office and customer service backround. Yet someone I know who is on drugs, rarely bathes, has quite a few teeth missing and used to be a waitress was just hired.
I do shop there when I have to but as mentioned earlier, I know what I pay for things at the stores I frequent. I know what is cheaper at Walmart and what is not.

Target has become down-right customer hostile in my area. They are no better than Walmart.

There was once a small hardware store near me that freaked out when the big box stores came to town. They sent out a letter saying how evil the box stores are, appealed to their family status, and practically begged for business. They closed pretty quickly. While it would seem the box stores shut them down, that wasn't the case.

This place had been staffed by underpaid rude teenagers. People bolted as soon as they had an alternative.

I personally shop at wal mart all the time. They carry a wide selection of items and they're cheaper than other places that carry the exact same item. Almost everything you buy nowadays comes from China, and right now I don't have the money to be picky.

I don't have the money to be picky either. It's my sanity that Wally World tests. The crowds are HORRID. We have two - one is better than the other. The other has shootings in the parking lot weekly. I stay away from that one.

Yep. I walked into Wal-Mart the other day to get some Dead Down Wind, and one of the workers pushed me outta the way. What the heck?! Needless to say, I walked out, drove a extra 1 1/2 hrs. to get to Bass Pro, and I aint goin to Wal-Mart again! Not this'n anyway...

I belong to the book of the month club, bookmooch and paperbackbook swap, i also hit every thrift store and yard sale for books, i also like the free shipping books a million have every so often, so from now own I will buy a gift card and they can buy what they want, Since we live in a small town with the only stores being piggley wiggley and super dollar general, I have to goto murfreesboro for any shopping. lesson well learned.but anyone who reads a lot can look at a book and tell if it has been read I guess i really should have just kept the book and donated it along with all the rest to the local library. Wal=mart books may be cheaper on money, but I think the $2.00 i would have saved would have been better spend on a box of candy. marrie

I've been on both sides of the grocery store experience myself. I used to work for GFS while in college. I think the advice about the gift receipt was best.

Big box stores can be ridiculous. Tonight was "Lack of Parenting Skills Night" at our local Meijer.

Among the various tantrums being thrown, kids begging for treats and toys and holding cart races, this one dad was seriously being RUN by a five-year-old and a three-year-old. It was an absolute nanny TV show disaster. (You can tell when someone's kids are having a bad day and when someone has absolutely no clue how to parent by how they react). You could hear the kids howling and throwing fits and yelling "Daddy, he hit me!" all over the store. At one point, he was in the aisle with me and he said, "I just try to pretend they aren't there" to me while we were both looking at spaghetti sauce. This was while they were screaming at each other and hitting each other with stuff from his cart. He looked so helpless. I just had to whisper politely..."Love and Logic...it works...look it up on the internet!" to the guy. I hope he takes a peek. Jim Fay is coming to our area in January.

I wish schools offered parenting classes sometimes, but maybe they ought to offer them at the stores, too.

Wal-Mart is the devil and I haven't been in there since June of LAST year. I DO not miss it, and I DO have more money in my checkbook than before when I was shopping there. Shop locally and Spend a little more with somebody that appreiciates their customers and knows what customer service REALLY is.
