I wish I would have done something in photography! What a fun job that would be!!

I am a post baccalaureate student, I got my first degree in History with a minor in Archaeology. Now I am getting my Nursing degree. Random, I know. I am lucky that the college I attend is only an hour and a half away from where my parents live and my mother is even more into chickens then I am. Whenever I am home we constantly talk about chickens! I personally like the heritage breeds and my mom likes dual purpose hardy breeds. We currently only have 10 chickens but come spring we have plans to get 25-30 more chickens.

Here are a few of my families chickens along with our freshly shaved Australians Shepard and Border Collie.

I just had to share with you guys that I got accepted to Cornell University for Veterinary Medicine, so it looks like I will be a student once again! I should be starting in August, providing everything goes well with loans and what-not! I've been so excited! I loved being a student, and find I often miss it since I've been working!

Wow, congrats!!!

I'm also a non-traditional student. Had a job in the auto industry and got laid off in 2010 so I went back to school. I'm married, 1 kid, in my 30's so it isn't easy. I got my associates in biology last spring and am currently pursuing a degree in animal science at Michigan State. Michigan is big in the dairy industry so MSU's dairy program is great but there are only a few avian classes. I applied to the Midwest Poultry Consortium summer program at the U of Wisconsin and I find out if I get in in Feb. I'm also applying to MSU's DVM program in August so it'll be a busy year for me. I have 22 hens and live at home and commute an hour to school. Did I leave anything out lol

Another non traditional student here, I am working on a sociology as and psychology bs and will work towards a master in high education administration. Yes, I am hoping to work for a college. I am hoping it will be a long steady career that will be full of fun and challenges :). I do have a flock and have a small group of black copper marans. I am adding a few more breeds this year and wheaten marans. That is the plan anyway! I know masters and phd are going to be expensive and I am on financial aid and paying out of my pocket to stay away from loans. With that is anyone having the chickens to help pay for college? Good luck everyone and stick with it!!!!
