Anyone order from Farwest hatchery out of Oregon??

Again... I will be shocked if you get any money refunded from Northwest Hatchery.
I will not order again from them.
Wilco is a good option, Union Mills Feed Store or if you live in the Molalla area there is a place called "Grandma Roses keeper of the peepers".
I know the name sounds hokey but this lady knows her birds, after I got took by Farwest Hatchery I saw her ad and went by to check it out. I told her the story & she said if any of her's were roosters she would gladly take it back to exchange for a different bird.
I bought 3 Barne Velders and 3 French Black Copper Marans and 2 silkies which are all hens and healthy.
She also carries quail, geese, ducks, doves, pigeons & every other bird you can think of.
She also hatches her own eggs too, just her & her husband with great customer service.
Thanks-
Stadeli

I stopped by there today on my way back home from a doctors appointment, as we did not get a call after placing our order a week and a half ago. I talked with Terry today and there has been some health issues with breeders (human, not bird -- one may have actually died, and one had her baby 2 months early) and his staff. He was boxing ALL of the chicks himself and with Easter here, he is overwhelmed. He cannot answer the phone and put chick orders together, so he is not answering the phone. Which is why I stopped by as for two weeks the recording said they wrre closed and at the height of hatching season I knew that could not be so.

Usually he has 8 workers there and they are all out for various illnesses. I was teasing him I would go to work for him for the day and he said he paid well.. so if anyone wants a job, you might contact them. He said that they are hatching out 100,000 birds a week and he was boxing solo with his sexer sexing birds as fast as (s)he could. They had been working on boxing since midnight last night and it was noon-ish when I stopped by.

My feed store ordered 300 chicks from them and only got 50, AND there were a LOT of roosters. I think their sexer is not doing an adequate job at this time and needs more training.

I feel bad that everything is going crazy for them, but then why take more orders? :\

The guy I got my chicks from suspected that Farwest is charging sexed hen prices for straight run chicks a real pain in the butt for those of us who are limited to a small all hen flock.

I ordered from Farwest hatchery and was set to pick up my chicks on Wed. March 27th, 2013. We live in The Dalles and had to be in Portland for Dr.'s Apt's for my son. A guy called me that morning and said he was the only one that showed up to work today. He said that the chicks would not be ready for us to pick up until that afternoon. I think he is the owner?? He said it would take him longer to get all the orders ready sense he is by him self. I said that would be fine. We drove out to the hatchery that afternoon and got there at about 3:00 pm. No one was there!! No sign or anything. I called the hatchery several times and finally got ahold of the guy. He said that he was at the Portland airport dropping off chicks for shipments and it would be a couple of hours before he would be back at the hatchery. I again let him know that we are from over two hours a way and could not wait. He said that he would ship them tonight for no charge. So we had to head home with no chicks.

So we should have gotten the chicks Thursday and nothing. I called the hatchery and he said that we may not get them until Friday morning. He also said for us to call him and let him know if they arrived ok.
I called the post office to for warn them and to please call me as soon as the chicks arrive. She ask "even if it is 3:30 am" I said Yes! Please. So i kept my phone by my bed. No call 3:45am, 6:00am still no call from the Post office. So i called the post office and they said that i had no delivery's yet. They said the latest truck would be there at 10:30am. I called and NO answer at the Farwest Hatchery! I left several messages, still no answer. My Family and i had plans today but waited to see if the chicks would arrive on the 10:30am truck. Nothing, I even called the post office to double check & Nothing! I called the Farwest Hatchery all day and left messages and NOTHING. So that is were i am at. I have no clue were my baby chicks are

I am always a big supporter of smaller local Oregon business. But i will never order from them again!! We have spent a lot of money on Gas, time & i already paid for the chicks. Plus we have been really looking forward to getting our new chicks. Our chickens are big part of our family and were looking forward to adding to it. I will keep everyone updated if i ever hear from Farwest Hatchery.

After reading these horrible reviews of this hatchery anybody would have to be crazy ordering from them, this guy could be the nicest guy in the world but it sounds like he's in way over his head, and for anybody who is owed a refund I would call the better buisness beurow, good luck to you all.

Again I will say......if he paid his workers they might show up for work. Jan no longer works for him. He may say tha he has a large crew but he does not.......just a lot of excuses!

This is really sad. I was so looking forward to having a "local" hatchery with large numbers of breeds available. And I was so excited about this hatchery having almost all their cockerels available for $1 each. I hate that many (most?) large hatcheries kill their excess cockerels, and in ways that are not humane. So by selling their cockerels for only $1, they were providing people with the option of trying various heritage breeds for meat on an economical basis, and avoided the usually inhumane disposal of unwanted males. It's an admirable hatchery business plan, but you've got to have customer service and follow-through, regardless of good intentions. Hopefully they will be able to get organized and back on their feet.

I hope that the breeding stock is being well cared for during this employment crisis.
