anyone ordered from meyer "cheap chicks" hatchery before?

I ordered 44 chicks from meyer and received them on april 27. 11 each of white rocks, buff orpingtons, black jersey giants, and new hampshire red. All are doing fantastic. Very happy with them. So I went back to them and ordered 25 cornish xs for later this year, they had the best price I could find on 25. Shipping was around 18 on the first order and I think around 17 on the cornish xs

i bought/picked up our 5 buff orpingtons from meyer. they have a very clean facility and friendly staff. we're thinking about buying more chicks from them later this year. their min. order is 3 chicks and have free mail catalog.

I ordered my 10 chicks from My Pet Chicken but they actually came from Meyers. They arrived the next day were 'packed' wonderfully and all are happy and healthy. I would certainly order from them again.

I ordered 15 chicks from Meyer this spring and one died a week after I received them. This was not Meyer's fault and I do not blame them. The other 14 are now five weeks old and in a coop/outside run. They are doing just fine and I would not hesitate to order from Meyer again. I do not consider them to be "cheap chicks." Perhaps "low cost" might be a better term.

Meyer is a great company. I ordered 18 chicks, 15 different breed all arrived healthy/ they are 5 weeks today and all are still thriving. Beautiful, healthy chickens, great customer support, friendly folks. I don't know what there is to be suspicious of. They're a decent company and really don't deserve being called a "cheap chick hatchery". Seems to me that without a good reason for saying it, that's a kinda cheap shot

Meyer call themselves the cheap chick hatchery. If you look at their logo on their website, it says "cheap chicks" right between "meyer" and "hatchery" in the logo.

I love Meyer. I ordered 20 chicks from them got 22, all healthy thriving babies...various brown layers. Great customer service. 2 year after I ordered, I moved aross country, I picked up the phone and called Meyer and asked about NPIP paperwork for my birds I ordered....they sent it right out in the mail.

If I were ordering from a hatchery again...I would go with Meyer

As another newbie I get where your coming from. I looked at them too, but went with a smaller breeder because I did not know their reputation, and I was afraid they were the equivalent of a puppy mill. They simply offer every breed which does make the uninitiated suspicious... Couple that with "cheap" and it is certainly a fair question to ask. It is really nice to see a business get such nice feedback, and I think we should try to be understanding, even if you found the question phrased in a way that you wouldn't have chosen...

it was a good question, that we should be asking about sellers, right?

Yes, "cheap chicks" is the Meyer logo. I have gotten various rare breeds from them 3 times now. Very pleased and beautiful birds. Blue ribbon quality! I live only an hour away, so I pick my order up, so don't know about shipping. Their store and hatchery is very clean with everthing you would need right there, along with many books and gift items. Sales people are always polite, patient and helpful. I was told most if not all of the eggs they hatch, are picked up by them at Amish farms all throughout the area several times a week.
They hatch and ship chicks by the thousands all over the country. I would never get chicks from any other hatchery!
Check out their Facebook page and see for yourself, the many satisfied customers they have. I would say they would be trusted more so than any other hatchery in the country. So why would you be "suspicious" of them and not any other hatchery?
Give them a chance.....odds are you won't go anywhere else once you do!

My 5 girls came from Meyer. I drove down to get them. Everyone there was super helpful and friendly. It was very clean. Also, one of the guys working there was very cute
