Anyone preparing for Sandy?

What can we do to help? I want to start collecting at work or maybe give blood, but how can I know it gets to you guys up there? Red cross would be the way to go I would guess

All H Broke loose here in NJ. Princess and I, animals, family and house are fine. No power maybe for two weeks. In a motel tonight using her I pad. Somewhat I effectively. NJ is devastated. In my seventy one years, I have never seen such devastation. Much of the NJ Shore is Gone! Will be back online when possible.
Thank God you, your family, animals and home are ok...although I'm sure it's hard to deal with the loss of power, it could have been so much worse. I sit here fretting about my chicken's run being muddy, and then I see the news and I'm ashamed of myself. We all just want this to be behind us, and for so many people, it will never truly be over. All of us who came through unhurt have much to be thankful for!

In Ocean City, MD, what we call "the inlet" was actually carved out by a hurricane...I think it was in the 30s. It completely reconfigured the shape of the coastline and destroyed everything in its path, and these days, nobody remembers what used to be there. Years from now it will be that way along the "new" Jersey shore. We think we have such control over our lives and our planet, but in the end, we're just passing through. Very humbling.

Sezjasper, I see you're just over in Carrol County, howdy neighbor!!!! I live in Baltimore County right next to Prettyboy, not to far from you. Sounded like you guys in CC faired out pretty well, glad to hear that.
Well howdy back at'cha, Neighbor! Good to see another Merry-lander here! You have quite a flock over there...I've got only four (spoiled) girls here...we're flying under the radar! Silly HOA rules

:hugs I hope everyone stays safe. I just watched Rock Center and was all about the hurricane. Some areas hit really really hard. New Jersey and Statin Island. Glad your ok sourland and wife. And anyone else in the area. Katie09 sorry to hear about your grandparents property. I bet they are counting their blessings now though. But wow what a hit. I remember talking on BYC to some newcomers in statin island about a month ago. It looks like it is under ssome water now. I pray everyone is safe in these areas hit by the storm.

Still without power here. Luckily we have a generator, but only run it for a few hours a day to shower and refill waterers. We were very lucky I think, but driving into PA for gas is getting old! The lines for gas in NJ are outrageous. My family was able to find a gas station about 15 miles away that has plenty of pumps and no lines. On Friday I was able to fill up so at least I have enough gas to get me to work on Wednesday and Thursday. I had originally taken off today but my plans got cancelled for the weekend. I am still glad I have today off though because I didn't feel like driving around trying to find diesel to fill the ambulances with!

On Thursday we were taking the elderly out of their houses and bringing them to care centers where they had heat. Going into houses without power and about 20 steps that we had to bring the patients down was so dangerous. I'm glad I have a little rest from doing that. The last two days I worked were insane!

I hope everyone else is faring well in the wake of this storm. My area was very lucky, but we still had a lot of damage to telephone poles and lots of trees down. I have yet to see any electric trucks working in the area though. I bet we will be last to see anybody because we are so out there.

Glad you are ok Chickerdoodle13 Sounds like life just got a lot harder for a while. And better keep the gas station with no lines quiet ;) So glad to hear from you.

WOW! As was earlier noted, the NJ and much of the NY shorelines have been radically changed with massive destruction. I feel so bad for those affected. The outpouring of help and support has been impressive. I think that all of the South came up here to put us back together. I so very humbly thank all of you.

We FINALLY got our power back yesterday. Thank goodness! It's nice to live in the 21st century again! LOL Still, we were very lucky. We hardly got any snow on Wednesday as well, so I was happy about that since I had to work both Wednesday and Thursday. Princeton wasn't so lucky though! It was BAD down there Wednesday night!

That is great! My cousin & his wife still don't have power and may not for several weeks yet. They are in North Caldwell, New Jersey and live on a dead end dirt road with only 5 houses. The line is down going to their road. They are considered "low priority". They still consider themselves lucky and they didn't have too much wind or rain damage to their home which is an old barn.
