Anyone read any good books lately?!

Found another reading quote. I get this one totally!

Happy Saturday (and @whoop whoop have fun with the new laptop)!

oh that is wonderful, and I agree I read about diving in caves in the Karoo it was a spooky kinda book and the author went on about the 'tokeloshe' which is an Africkan mythical creature which takes you away in the night and does nefarious things - she went on to describe the coldnes of the water and I swear it was the middle of Summer and 40 outside and I put my electric blanket on it was so real. lol

Loving new toy but so sensitive excuse grammer must get a mouse. Know this is not appropriate for this thread but had to show you - Molly hatched this morning here is baba

Adorable chick, congratulations!
(I think chicks are always appropriate!)

Well I just finished the latest Jack Reacher book by Lee Childs. Although he is getting older he is still a hunk I think, lol, but I do have trouble associating with the movie and Tom Cruises' portrayal of him because to me Reacher embodies everything in a tough guy any self respecting girl would want!!! and Tom just does not cut it for me. I m sure they could have got someone else to do the part anyone infact even Arnie and know that is pushing it

I had never read any of his books & am thoroughly enjoying them. I love it when I discover a writer that has a long series already written as there is no waiting for a year between books, or in the case or GoT, several years. Thanks for mentioning him

Congrats on your new fluffy butt whoop whoop.

I just finished a book called "Turtle Beach". It's a YA book so it's clean and an easy read. Enjoyed it!

Also finished a book called 5 stages of falling in love by Rachel Higginson. It's an Indie book. very good!!!

About to start Spark of Light by Elizabeth Tuttle. Another Indie book with a paranormal theme.

Totally agree!!!

I'm re-reading one of my favorite Mitch Albom books, "For One More Day". I love his stories, very heart touching. He writes so simply but beautifully...he can say in 10 words what others would say in 10 pages. The other one of his I've read was "The Five People You Meet In Heaven". Some day I'll find a used copy of "Tuesdays With Morrie" to add to the collection. I just checked his website and he has a few others that look good. I highly recommend him.

Lucily I have Eat Pray Love on hand but might try the David Morrells they look exciting. They are older books but still a good read. Still got flu and when they say 'starve a fever and feed a cold' they lie, I've been feeding both put on 2Kgs and Rufus has nothing on me, I look like I have been defrosted in the micro wave then re frozen and now fat - I hate it is not as though I can taste anything but am starving -plus Hubby is dong the cooking which leaves a lot to be desired but he does try.Csn't sleep so going to tuck up with the SAS - sounds fun lol let you know how the book go.lol One of these days i will stop moaning - night lol

@whoop whoop sorry to hear you are still feeling badly. Stay in bed, read and let DH take care of things. Get better soon!

I love books that mash up nature/science and an almost prose/poetry approach.

From that perspective, I can't recommend Chet Raymo highly enough. Hes very tuned into the minutia, the esoteric details that make beautiful connections (much more eloquently than Burke, Sagan or Attenborough.) His degree's in physics, astronomy (by large) is his cup of tea, he's an anamist/pantheist, and he does a really beautiful job being gracious for contributions of multiple cultures, arts and sciences.

3 of his more popular bks are:

365 Starry Nights--a planetarium in a book. A day-by-day account of what you can see in the stars and in nature for any given day of the year.

The Soul of the Night--The natural next book if you like 365--assumes you already know the 365 content and builds from it. An absolute gem of a book & must-have for science/astronomy/natural science lovers.

Walking Zero has a different momentum, as Raymo walks the Prime Meridian and revisits the places of historical and scientific significance that are usually only a mile of two either way of the course of the meridian. You get details f on science and history in his books that you won't find elsewhere in such a neat, tidy packet. He does a bang-up job here w/ anthropology/geology/technological evolution and paleontology) and always leaves you wanting more.

Unmatchable

But for the same delicate, minutia specific to birds, The Birdwatcher's Handbook is worth the read if, for no other reason, the essays on all manner of species and aspects of birding is a deliciously guilty read : )

However...coming from a mystery-loving/detective/bordering on horor-type book background that you do, it's been a few yrs since I worked in books, but there is (or was, at least was) this kind of mystery-lovers authors cross-reference, i.e. "if you like Sherlock Holmes, you might like Agatha Christie" based on very specific qualities of what you lie or dislike most, so just when you think you've run out of an author, you can skip sub-genres. If you have a local intensely mystery/horror bookshop, ask them to find you a copy. It tends to be more accurate than algorithmic book referral sites.

I'll keep thinking of books, meanwhile, rest up and enjoy that little peep (they grow up so fast!)

Take Care!
