Anyone ready to ring in the new year...and lose weight/get fit?

Time for a story -
back when I was 30something... I woke up one day and realized that I was heavier than I'd been when I was 9months pregnant! I decided I was tired of feeling old and ugly and fat. So I told my xH, and he went out and bought me a workout video at Goodwill. (We shopped at Goodwill a lot, due to finances.)We decided to preview it together so I knew what I was getting into. So, there we are, sitting on the couch in the living room, munching chips and cheese and him drinking beer, me drinking wine or something equally good for me... And we watched the workout video!

The next day, I tried doing it. I really did. I got my workout clothes on, and turned it on. I couldn't make it through the *warmup* without getting winded. But I did that and then the next day, I did it again. Eventually, I was able to get through the whole video. I even bought some dumbbells and started doing some weightlifting too. Decided I don't much like aerobics but it's okay... But I really like weightlifting and biking. So that's how I lost 25 pounds and developed a lot of nice muscle. That was around a decade ago, so it's time to get back to it.

I know I can do it. I know that you can too. You don't have to be able to run an hour. You just have to be willing to get those workout clothes on and go do *something* every day. As long as you do something every day, you win. And that habit really makes a difference.

And now, I'm off to put on my workout clothes and do some workout...

Walking is one of the best exercises out there! Go you!

Okay - so as often happens, once I actually *start* working out, I feel more inclined to *continue* working out. So I worked out for almost an hour today: 7 minute warmup on the stationary bike, followed by about 1/2 hour or so of abs and leg work to music. Nothing *intense* - but continuous. Followed by another 10 mins of cooldown and stretching.

Go me!

WOW! That's quite a workout when you're first starting up again annaraven!

Now that you've inspired me I'm grabbing my coat and taking a short walk

Yeah - I'm probably going to be regretting it tomorrow... (I'm prone to overdoing it a wee bit... )

Still - it kinda felt good to do something like that.

Great idea on the walk KBChicks. See - I find that daunting! Cuz - if I've walked til I'm done, I still have to go back. So I find it much harder to convince myself to do something like that. With the workout in my bedroom, I can stop anytime. Makes it easier actually to keep going, for me.

Also keep in mind that my physical therapist this fall was doing pretty good workouts on me (at least once a week) so I'm starting from a base of being somewhat almost kinda sorta fit. At least way more fit than I was when I had to lose 30 pounds back in my 30s.

that is awesome anna.. way to go.. i have been good so far.. eating in moderation.. fruit for breakfast. lean cuisine or such for lunch. fruit and cheese cube for snack and normal size portion for dinner.. all i did today was pee and pee.. lots of water retention i guess.. i am so glad hubby goes back to work tomorrow.. he has made christmas cookies and yesterday 4 loaves of bread.. told him to make something i could eat cause i was watching out.. and what did he make today???? jerk.. pardon my french.. chocolate chip cookies.. i do believe he is unconscously sabbotaging me.. but i haven't touched a one.. he is not over weight so he can eat them all.. pllllttttttt to him.. but i am proud of all of you who have started to get healtier.. plugging nose so i don't have to smell his homemade cookies lol.. and taking a bite of my apple.. good luck all.. oh and i took my blood sugar and instead of all most 200 it was 114 before bed and today 130 after eating.. yeaaaa me!!!!

Just to answer the topic question: not yet, I'm sitting with a tub of Ben & Jerry's Dulce De Leche. Maybe in a few weeks cause then I've got a wedding to attend & fine clothes to fit into.

Great work! That's awesome readings! I'm so glad for you. I know you worked hard to achieve that.

Tell your DH, if he's going to bake cookies, to learn how to incorporate things like almond flour, so that they're lower carb. You can bake "gluten free" cookies that are 1/3 the carbs of regular cookies - you just need to use more egg to bind them. That way you can have a cookie without destroying your blood sugar.

I just sat down, I spent the day cleaning up the barn...again.
The slobs I live with are my exercise plan.
Well, they are not slobs.. well, By jingo, if they weren't, I wouldn't be so tired. Yes, they deserve to be called slobs. barn slobs. Like swallows but less tidy.

But then I came home and ate cookies. so it all goes blaa.
I am boiling eggs to have to eat for tomorrow when I am too pooped to make something when I get home.

I have a sick husband that never gets sick, so my son and I are getting our exercise washing our hands repeatedly.

I like the idea of almond flour in the cookies. That way you can have sweet and protein without the carbs.
They have decided that it isn't the fat in something that causes cholesterol levels to go up, but the carbs. especially the corn syrup. Corn syrups and stress.

Oh I hate corn syrup. HFCS is evil, imho, and totally connected to the increase in obesity and diabetes in the US. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Remember that cleaning is exercise too! Being *active* and not sitting on your butt is good. I need to get off mine before it gets more fluffy and see if the girls finished laying...
