Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

I haven't figured out how I'm going to candle. There are 17 under her and all she wants to do is sit, when I tried to check to see if she was turning them I only gota few marked before she was trying to settle down on them again. I guess I'll have to put them in something and give them back when I'm done. I wish she was doing better turning them. Not sure what I'm going to find, hope she has a few developing and there is a splash ORP bantam under there.

Joyfulkeeper and Molly you were watching hearts beating day 7? right? I want to candle today (day 4 & 3) But I'm going to try to wait until Sunday.... I don't know how I'll do...LOL. Waiting that is...
yep. yesterday was day 7! it was really cool. we didnt know what we were seeing at first...even my oldest son, who really hasnt shown much interest.. was like wow.. that is cool.. then he stayed for the rest of the candling!!

I set 15 eggs May 1st. My first time incubating eggs. EGGcited about lockdown! We have raised chicks from 2 days old. All are beautiful and healthy now 9 months old. 14 hens.

i am not doing anything with my broody. i dont want to bother her at all so its all going to be up to her. we will have faith and see how she does!

I think that's the way you need to be. Leave it up to Momma to do her job. I'm sure there are variations on how well hens do...but for the most part, from what I hear, hens do better than 'bators. Just gotta have faith in her. And as we all know chickening will give us our share of disappointments...no matter the stage or level of skill. I've put my trust in Dixie and am not going to watch the pencil marks on the eggs. I think it would drive me nutty. LOL.

The eggs under my broody were set on a Friday and I didn't get to candle until the next Friday. That was too late to see much. The duck eggs I set on Thursday in the incubator and candled on Tuesday. That is when I could see the quick beating of the heart. So, not quite a week. I don't think a gentle candling will hurt anything. We need to get all the enjoyment we can out of this so it never feels like too much work.

Yay, I hope you have a great hatch.
This is my first time too. I can't wait to see all the littles running around.

I went and did quick candling under my broody, darkened the coop as much as possible so leeway given. There is veining in some of the pyncheon eggs, some appear clear but I left them. I did pull two, they were scrambled in the shell. I thought they might be when I gave them to her, but I gave them a shot anyway.

Really have to watch auto correct, I'm not trying to hatch "luncheon" eggs.

Candled mine today, day 8. Saw a lot of nice veins and little bitty chicks moving around. So much fun. A few were questionable but waiting to candle at day 14. We had a broody hen but she decided she did not want to be broody anymore. We had to put them in the incubator.
