Anyone Setting eggs on 4/10/12??? Want to hatch with me?

On a slightly different topic, has anyone ever hatched duck eggs? Anything you need to do differently? I am going to a swap on Saturday and have been informed that I will be given duck eggs by a friend (among mannnnny other eggs) so I am wondering if I could have them in the same incubator with chicken eggs.

You can set them in the same incubator. Duck eggs need higher humidity.

That is awesome! Tonight is my Day 7, so I am going to candle and see what I have. I have 15 shipped eggs in there right now. The packing was great, so I hope I have a good number developing.

Duck eggs need higher humidity. They also take 28 days to hatch rather than 21. Just keep in mind that duck eggs are way more sensitive than chicken eggs. I ordered 18 duck eggs and 12 chicken eggs. I got 21 duck eggs and 18 chicken eggs. By the time lockdown came, I had 9 duck eggs left and 12 chicken eggs left. They both had great fertility, but not as much of the duck eggs made it that far....

Today is day 7, and I just candled my eggs. One was infertile and one was fertile but looked dead. I removed the infertile one and kept the one that looked dead just to be sure. The other 14 eggs look good. I'm just glad it's not as hard to wait as it was last time. Since none hatched, I got two chicks and two ducklings. They are growing FAST! They will be 3 weeks tomorrow.

Just candled again!

So it seems like thirteen out of her fifteen are developing nicely, though I'm not sure exactly what day she started on. I believe they are on day six or seven now though.

It turns out that the three that have no development that I left in there were put in there by my brother. I'll let them stay and see if they progress, as we really want some more d'Uccles. Fifteen would be great!

PLease help me! This has nothing to do with my eggs but I'm just looking for any help I can. I was taking pictures of my chicks and ducklings, and one of my ducklings off of the "stage" thing (it's like 2 or 3 feet in air). She was fine, but when that happened I hurried and closed to door to the brooder. I closed on top of one of my chicks that was trying to fly out. Now she's acting all lethargic. Please help me I don't know what to do. Sorry to post it on this thread but I'm freaking out.

Sorry for asking that in this thread, I just really didn't know what to do. I posted another thread and got the advice I needed and she's doing great. Anyway, I'll update on my eggs. Yesterday (like I said) I had 8 that were for sure alive, 4 that looked alive, but I couldn't tell, three that didn't look alive, and one that was infertile that I threw away. Today, I have 10 that are for sure alive, one that looks alive, one that was dead that I just threw away, and the others looked like they died, but I'll keep them for a while longer just to be sure.

Thanks. That's interesting. I wonder how I could provide higher humidity to the duck eggs and lower to the chicken eggs in the same incubator. Hmmm.

I candled on Monday night, day 7 for me, and did not like what I saw. One blood ring and a possible second for sure, and then, most of the others had what I call a "hammock" shape - a dark, 'hammock'-shaped mass low in the egg. In my experience, hammocks do not hatch, so I am hoping that I am just mistaken about what I am seeing.

I realllllly want these eggs to hatch. The weather has been up-and-down, and I'm afraid that there might have been too much temperature variation. But I haven't seen it above 100.4 or below 99.2 so that should not be it.... I don't know. I'm just hoping that they do better than I think they are doing. I just left everything in. I'll probably look again on Sunday or Monday.

When incubating duck and chicken eggs together just put it in the middle, probably about 50-60%.

There were several things that people said. One person suggested sugar water for extra energy. Some people said to separate her from the others so that they won't beat on her. I brought her inside and put her in a box with food and water, but she didn't eat or drink any of it. After about an hour, I remembered hearing about how some times a boiled egg could help when they go lethargic. So I mashed up a boiled egg, but at first she wouldn't eat it. I had to open her mouth and put some in so that she would actually know what it tasted like. After that, she did eat some of it. After I felt that she was strong enough, I put her back into the brooder with the others and she went straight to the food and ate. I think everything was mostly because she was shocked. She is acting completely normal now, besides the fact that she doesn't dare try to get out again.

Hoping for you that the other egg is alive. How many eggs do you have? Have you incubated before?

Just keep hanging in there.

We did a hatch many years ago. During the hatch we lost power for 4 days. The incubator dropped to the 70's while I was trying to figure out how to heat it again. I ended up venting heat from the oven into the bator to heat it. This was a very inexact science. The temp went up to 120 or so at one point because I couldn't control the heat. Once the power went on I just left them until hatch day just in case. To my surprise we had a few hatch. I still call it a success because we had a few hatch even with all the bad that happened.
