Anyone setting eggs starting July 15 -July 22?

My little guy has pipped some more....finally!!
jumpy.gif

He broke the shell or dented it... then took a 5 hour nap and now has the hole all the way open where his beak is right there atthe air hole.Just started an hour ago,.Now i guess i will be up all night.
This is where my last hatch only guy stopped...I am trying to keep the humidity up to 76 no lower but boy i have to keep adding water .Didnt put the sponge in and now wish i did.
My long straw cant go every place and i need to add some to the center wells. I do have some cotton balls in but dumb me put them where i cant fill them with the straw. Dang me.
Also I have a little water on the screen I guess where there isnt a well or its full. It isnt touching the eggs but will it hurt to be up like that if this guy comes out and walks around or if a eggs rolls in it trying to hatch?

Question for everyone. I set 15 eggs pretty much knowing that 3 were duds but giving them a chance just in case. When I candled at day 14 the 3 I thought were duds were tossed leaving me with 12 good eggs. Would I count my hatch rate percentage by the 15 I set or the 12 I knew were good?
I'd set it by the 15 if your meticulously honest, you did set them. That said, you could count the 12 if you wish it, there is reason to as well.

Now, I'm at my desk top. I think I said to whoever can't tell how much water they have in their well, try a drop of food coloring in it. When it evaporates the dried up ring is always darker than the colored water. It's always at least a shade or two darker. Works great!
I only add water one time, as I get my best results with dry hatching. I have gotten as high as 80% with shipped eggs, but there always seems to have been some weird variable.

I nominate Brookhaven for the spirit award of this thread. You are so real and genuine sounding and really enjoying the journey of hatching chicks and it shows. It's AWESOME isn't it?

Yes Barred Rocks. I wanted egg layers and didn't want to spend too much on my first hatch so at $5/dozen+3 extra it was a steal.

Hi Matlock, I have considered hatching emus......

However, Hatching Rule #5 is don't hatch anything that can beat you up.

Ain't there just something appealing about a six foot tall angry bird you can actually sick on people if need be! :D
If you don't believe me... ask my turkey! :D
Plus... I just want to say I did it!

Edit to say I forgot to tell you... that post cracked me plum up! Too funny!
