What's the difference between setting the eggs upright in carton and laying them flat during lockdown? Does it make a difference? I want to do everything humanly possible to have a great hatch with this next batch!

my husband calls and asks me what i have been doing today I said watching chickens hatch on a live web cam. he said sounds real productive. ha ha

That is exactly how mine laid for a few hours. I really did not think he was going to make it after I helped but to my surprise he did get up and dried off in no time. Infact, I just checked on them all and he was chasing another chick that had a wood chip in it's beak.

we are up to 2 :) one more has pipped the last i think is a dud the little yellow one was the one that pipped 36 hours ago i had to zip him then left him for abit become clear that he was stuck his little wing was dried to his head and the egg so he would of died if i didnt help him he looks worn out but is holding his head up now after resting for over a hour .. now im waiting on the pipped one to zip lol so my worries is not over yet lol

I had the same question with this hatch. I was going to lay mine down when I went into lockdown but then read an article about how the hatched chicks bumped into and moved around the remaining eggs. Not a good thing if one has pipped. From what I read if the chick has pipped and it gets rolled it becomes disorientated and has a hard time hatching. It makes sense but at the same time you see all the pictures and videos of chicks hatching and there is no problem. There are pro's and cons to both ways but I decided to go with the carton and am glad I did.
