Anyone setting eggs tomorrow (13th March, EDD Apr 3rd)

You can call me Kristi if you want. I had it in my siggy, but my siggy kept getting longer with all the chickens I keep aquiring...lol.

About lockdown...I had the same question. I have been doing mine just sometime on day 18. Actually, my last hatch, lockdown really wasnt lockdown. I opened the bator so much to spritz water, rewet sponges, etc....

me for that. BUT my hatch rate went up considerably doing it that way. So Im gonna do it that way again.
When I didnt open it at all, I got 0/4, and 1/9 hatch. I like my 5/6 hatch rate better!

My 'pseudo lockdown' is Wed too. Hope my others hatch day 21 like they are supposed to! Cause day 22 is lockdown for the others.

Speaking of the last hatch, I opened up the egg that didnt hatch. The chick was just as formed as the hatchlings, but its head was still down at the little end. Could it not turn? Or did it not turn in time and just died?

Your trip sounds fun! Wish I had gone!! Since your kids are just getting up at 11, are they homeschooled or is it spring break? (We homeschool)

Day 18 (lockdown) is day 16 for my store boughts, how will this work? I'll not be rotating any eggs from their day 16 and the humidity will be high. Is this going to pose a problem for my store boughts??

I gotta get my brooder box ready and on by Friday. I better get to the store for the thermometer....... Thursday, kids got dentist appt. I'll do it then...... later

I just did a hatching in same bator as others still bating. You know, instead of having to use the stupid LG....

I took the turner out, put the bating eggs in an egg carton that I had cut the bottoms out of. Put it on right side of bator. Then I put the hatching eggs in coffee filters on left side of bator. To turn, I stuck something under the egg carton side, and removed, etc.. to tilt.

I upped the humidity a little bit for day 18-20. Then really upped it day 21.
It worked out just fine as they other eggs are all still developing and moving around inside during candling.

I thought I was going to use the LG to hatch my 3/30 EHD eggs, but temp had been stable and I went in to check it and it was 103. Then next time it was 97. So I put them back in the hovabator with all the others as described above.
Stupid stupid LG.

I have 4 goose eggs in there right now, till the hatchers get done in the hovabator. 3/4 are developing. Not sure they will hatch as I have never done goose before.... They were given to me with the last batch of 12 eggs. We ate 3, put 4 in bator. We shall see

Its nice out. Gotta go put the older chicks outside....

I had a sleepless night with a big wind / rain storm overnight. I was sure as soon as I went to sleep we'd lose power! Couldn't let that happen when so close to lockdown!!! Luckily, we didn't lose power and the wind is supposed to be letting up now. Had no internet all morning!

Then I went back in to just look and ANOTHER had pipped. Then I called my 9 yo dd at grammies to tell her that 2 had pipped. Went back in to look and a 3rd had pipped!!! Its beak is sticking out and its already started zipping!!!!!

Incubating and hatching is so stressful.

Many a night Ive stayed up just to keep checking temps in the stupid LG. Since it spikes and drops for no reason. Love the hovabator..much less stress.

Sorry you didnt get much sleep. I very much dislike heavy winds. Love the rain though!

Here is our chick from friday. DH says one is still pipping. He may have to help it out tonight if it isn't out on it's own.
