Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

Well heres your update! I candled and all 7 eggs have movement except one. They egg has great veining but a large mass with no movement so I am guessing that he/she is large and running out of room. I will live Him/her in there for lockdown and see what happens. They are getting so big and all of my air cells are developing nicely as well. I set some more eggs tonight. Silkies and I dropped two on the floor!!!!

The Brinsea was leaning towards me and I was trying to scoot two eggs closer together with a paper towel and they just popped out of the incubator onto the floor. So that blows.

Does anyone know if the LG egg turner will fit in my Hovabator? I sure hope so.

But glad the candling went well...I am going to go candle now myself.......

I just candled my 5 eggs and YAY I see movement again! no clue why they werent as active yesterday. my air sacs are really small though...probly not much i can do about this now:( is this really really bad??? Lockdown is at 4pm I can't believe its finally here lol. my goodness I have alot on my mind...now it's time to start worrying if the chicks will hatch ok and If they will survive after they hatch! definately gonna do my research again to make sure I'm prepared for anything! Oh and just to be sure...I should put wet sponges in the incubator to raise the humidity at lockdown right? how do I know how much to add?

You dont have to put sponges in. It all depends on where you live and how high you are able to get your humidity throughout the hatch. I have 3 tablespoons of water in mine so when its time for lockdown I will just add more water. I am nervous to though lockdown for me is nor for 2 more days. Good luck! Try not to go chick crazy!

I haven't had a chance to read through all the postings since I've been gone a bit...my little boy is suffering from some bad allergies...

anyway, monday is lockdown for me and I can't wait to see what everyone hatches!! So far all three remaining eggs are alive and moving....I'm still worried about that odd shaped egg cell one, from what i've read those end up dieing in the shell...but i'll have to see...very excited, my temps and humidity have been right on the mark....

well, from what I've read they are a lot better than the LG - not sure why the LG was made to be such a temperamental little thing...its very frustrating when you first put in your eggs - both your temps and humidity are all over the place...turn the dial too much, your temps soar to 106, turn it too little, your down in the 70's - If I can get out of the house today, I'm getting the Brinsea but not the advanced since it's out of my price range, figure Brinsea has great reviews, even their non digital model which goes for $99 and I can get 10% per the Brinsea rep.

And yes, happy hatching to everyone!!!

Its very exciting, can you blame us???!!!

When you get to see that little hole where just a few minutes ago nothing was happening and then you see the chick rocking and a rolling trying to get out and now all of a sudden everyone's interested in your obsession and cheering on the little guy or girl to keep going!!! It is such a blast!!

MikeS(erama) :

Lol i can picture you all freaking out when you're in lockdown and can't candle anymore.

My god, wait till you have your first pip! You'll be sitting in front of the incubator waiting for it to hatch! I still do this..... Lol and when they start to zip....forget it, I don't go anywhere lol

Nope, can't blame you at all lol like I said, I still do it! Lol then while they are hatching, I'm standing there watching and saying to them "come on little one, not much further! You can do it!" lol It doesn't matter if it's your first or 100th hatch, it's still exciting! Lol

Depending on if you are doing the humid incubation/hatch or the dry incubation/hatch will determine how you go about raising the humidity in the bator. I do the humid incubation/hatch. During incubation my humidity levels hover right around 50%. At lockdown, I actually use a couple of wet socks to bring the humidity up (I use socks because they fill up more space on the bottom then a sponge would) and my levels will increase to around 65% give or take. I keep part of the socks in the water well and that way they act somewhat like a wick.

Oh, and this is one thing I want to mention to all the first time hatchers on here as well. When your eggs start to pip, you might notice a humidity spike and the windows on your bator might fog up a little. This is normal, it's humidity produced by the liquid in the hatching eggs. I've seen my humidity soar from 65% to 75% when I had a few pip at the same time.
