Anyone tried a handheld steamer to get rid of mites in a coop?

I have an extension out to the coop since we have an automatic door and I'm thinking of using heat somehow to get rid of mites. I have a handheld steamer I use on furniture and things I can't wash when my dog has fleas. Has anyone tried this to get rid of mites? I'm just not sure if the steamer will get hot enough.

I read on Reddit that this guy used a few heat lamps and got it to 145 degrees in his coop and left it for 3 hours. I think I'd be concerned about the coop catching on fire.

I asked Google "Will Steam Heat Kill Poultry Mites". The results are below.

I think it's very much worth a try using the steam cleaner along with treating with a Permethrin based poultry spray (after steaming), you may be able to get rid of them fairly quickly.

I agree with you, heat lamps can be risky, so since you already have the steamer, give it a try.
Please follow up and give us a report if you do use this method!

Okay, I'll follow up in a few weeks. Yep, I was thinking of steaming and then spraying with Permethrin. I have Elector PSP coming so I may try that too if the mites come back.
