Anyone wanna work out with me???

NoSpringChick, do NOT get discouraged! It takes 3 weeks to establish a new habit, so you have one more to go. And even if you aren't losing weight, you're establishing good habits that are healthier. Also, muscle weighs more than fat. Also, weigh before you drink a bottle of water (my error). Also, don't wear your heavy hiking shoes when you weigh in (another of my errors).

Plus, give yourself 4 weeks to evaluate the results of this project. We'd miss you if you left so soon!

Thanks for the prayers and hugs, eggcetra and nospringchick.

I took my dd to a counselor today, and she had the most WONDERFUL advice for me ... stop reading his emails. DUH! I was thinking that I can't, because we have to communicate about various things, legally. But I'm having someone else read them for me and forward what I need to act on. The counselor helped my dd, and that was my biggest concern. And I've taken legal action on what might be a dangerous (or just weird) situation. And I've got an appointment with my pastor and his wife in the morning.

Now other areas of my life are falling apart in a HUGE way (when it rains, it pours?) but I refuse to give up. My dd and too many animals depend on me.

I know it will all be ok, one way or another.

And I at least stuck to my diet. No chance to exercise today, but I'm maintaining that little bitty loss, at least. And I'll get there. Even if it takes a long time.

Don't feel bad nospringchick. I don't know about you, but my weight sometimes fluctuates hugely (5-6 pounds a day) and for no reason based on what is probably a little water retention, sometimes affected by hormones, and if my digestion isn't working well, that factors in too sometimes. It sounds like you MUST be accomplishing something. And if you are building muscle, it does weigh more than fat but it's a lot slimmer, so you look better while you weigh nearly the same. Another bonus is, more muscle burns more calories, so it speeds you up even more from there. So I hope that's what's happening with you, but if not, it's probably nothing like real weight, just maybe like whatever weird thing happens to me when I KNOW I don't gain/lose 5 pounds in one day.

It would be cool if we could have a total thing somewhere, showing the total weight loss of all of us put together. That might be really encouraging. (LOL, then again, maybe really DIScouraging, if I know my couple of pounds are only a tiny percentage of the total!)

Can I join in? I'm , uh, 28 tomorrow. (eek, I jst realized that!

) and I'm heavier than I've ever been - 150 lbs. At 5'2" that's too heavy!

I've lost weight in the past, but it seems to get harder each time. When I was 15 I went from 145 to 105 in several months without trying! Oh, youth!

I'd like to be 120. That's 30 pounds to lose! I signed up to use the weight room at the local community center. (super cheap, $2 a visit!) I don't go as often as I should, though I do go at least once a week. I haven't lost any weight, but haven't gained any either.

I should probably try to limit my calories and my sweet tooth. Darn those free donuts at work and free bread!

Join us, Earthnut!
I have a sweet tooth, too, and am very glad no one has free donuts at work!

I tricked my sweet tooth by eating Pecan Crunch granola bars most of the times that I want a cookie or candy. At least there's fiber there! Instead of chocolate I eat a few Jelly Belly beans of Good-n-Plenty when I just can't resist the candy craving. No fat even if there's sugar.

Haven't had a coke in days, and even then it was about 4 ounces rather than a whole can.

I can't do the artificial sweeteners since they give me a headache. But in a way I think retraining my sweet tooth will do me more good in the long run.

Good luck!

Welcome, Earthnut!

And I second the idea of granola bars. There are lots of yummy ones out there, and some almost seem TOO sweet. My dd has some right now that are candy-bar flavored (snickers, m&m's, and something else ... ). They are VERY sweet, have only 100 calories, a little chocolate, and I believe a bit of fiber and protein. Not the greatest snack, but not so bad and a lot better if it staves off a craving.

And I'm happy today. I'm down 3 pounds since last Saturday! I had to weigh myself twice to be sure, because it was less than 2 pounds yesterday. Just that weird fluctuation, I guess, but I'm CLAIMING those 3 pounds since I saw it twice this morning!

I've been exercising and eating okay this week. I had chocolate today. I signed up to be room mom for my son's fourth grade class and today I found out that I am the lead teacher's room mom. That means more work for me. I don't know quite why I signed up for this, I hate calling people I don't know well and I 'd rather do something myself than ask for help. But it will keep me invovled in the class. But they had M & Ms at the meeting, and I ate some, and they were goooood. I'll be a good girl today and tomorrow because we're going to a fair on Saturday and I intend to eat fair food. Wish me luck

Ok, I had 1,110 calories yesterday so I'm sticking to my 1,500 calorie a day diet. Yea!!! I still don't know whether I've lost anything, but I FEEL thinner, so that's something, right?

Alright, yet another slim-fast.com tip:

Fast Foods On-the-Run

Avoid the value meals and don't "supersize." Skip the regular sodas, milkshakes, French fries and regular sauces and dressings. Order a side salad with fat-free dressing.

Make special requests. Ask for condiments on the side or request extra veggies.

Drink water or order a diet soda.

Examples*:

Arby's

Regular Roast Beef Sandwich and garden side salad with low-fat dressing.
McDonald's

Cheeseburger and side salad with low-fat dressing.
Wendy's

eggcetra, be careful about eating too little. All the medical stuff I've read recommend at least 1200 calories. And if you're eating less than 1500 calories, it's a good idea to take multivitamins!

Fat, salt, and sugar I love.

I just like to eat, what can I say. I must have breakfast or I can't function. At least I have no interest in coffee or sodas.

I used to love granola bars, but became too sweet for me after I cut back on the sugar. I've gotten more used to sugar now, so I really shouldn't buy them or I'd probably go through a whole box! I really should cut back on the sugar again, because too much sugar makes me sick, though I had a big cookie today already.

Let's see... I've had about 400 calories today so far. Not too bad.

Here's the diet that worked well for me in the past, if anyone's interested. It's based on the one recommended by the Mayo Clinic.

I count servings, instead of every little calorie, so it's not quite so much work to figure out how much I've had, and it works in restaurants too. Servings are as defined by the USDA, *NOT* what they say on the package. Many foods will have 300 or 400 calorie "servings". A real serving is about 100 calories. I aim for 1200 calories when I diet, or 8 servings of carb/protein food plus unlimited fresh fruits and vegetables.

Some examples of servings: 1/2 cup cooked rice, 1 slice bread, 1 cup cooked pasta (or 1/2 cup spagetti), 10 crackers, 1/2 large cookie, 1/2 bagel, 1 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup cooked beans, 1 egg, a piece of meat the size of a deck of cards.

No soda, limited fat, sweets and juice (those add up in calories real fast!).
