Beautiful hens! I've never had a Welsummer before, but I'd like to get some someday.

What do you mean by saying:

Can eggs get darker over time? My Cuckoo Maran mix started laying earlier this month. I was almost thinking that her eggs were getting darker, but I wasn't sure. It just didn't sound right. Is there a slight possibality that she'll still lay a chocolate egg? Her brown not chocolate eggs is the biggest reason why I think that she's a mix. That, and her leg and beak color. Here, this is a picture of her:

I'm pretty sure that the first egg they lay will be the darkest, and then they will slowly get lighter until winter. Then once they start laying again, they will be dark again.

Oh, ok. Her first egg was brown, so her eggs probably will stay brown. Thanks for the info, though! Looking at the picture, what type of mix do you think that she is? She looks like a Cuckoo Maran, except for the legs and beak.

I'm not so sure that info is correct... but it's what I've heard. Comet's first egg was almost the same as the wyandottes'. They have darkened a lot since.............................

Ok! Maybe there is hope for a chocolate egg after all! Maisy is my first dark egger, so I'm not very familar with that either.
