Anyone want to hatch with me??? Setting tomorrow.

Haha thanks, she's pretty funny and means business! I'm lucky she hasn't pecked me yet, but she's very sweet.

I just took her off the nest to let her poop/eat/drink and she only wanted to stay off for 3 minutes before heading back! That's my girl

I usually candle at day 7 or day 10 and then again at day 18 right before I put them into lockdown. You *can* candle before that but often times you'll have eggs that look clear but are in fact developing. It stresses/bums me out so IMHO it's not really worth it

I just set 10 dozen Production Red eggs. On Tuesday I set 3 dozen White/black/splash silky eggs and I dozen Blue Marans eggs

my first hatch i candled a lot. i'm a little more relaxed this time so i'm only candling a couple times. my eggs have been in 2 days. i am on day 15 on another hatch and had to toss 4 that were early quitters. had a lot of problems with temp early so only have 7 left there.

I just bought a flashlight to candle my duck eggs this weekend. It has 78 lumens. Will that be strong enough to candle cayuga duck eggs? It was the brightest that we could find at our TSC. They had cute little "comm. black" pullets. I tried to talk my husband into getting them but he said no.

So I opened up the flashlight and checked 6 of the 28 eggs and all 6 were fertile! I am soooo excited. 3 more weeks to go. Oh, and today was day 9.

My last hatch was only 18 eggs so i candled few different times. This time I set 39 eggs not sure if I'm going to candle or not. Seems it would take a lot of time and moving them in and out might mess up my temp/humidity for to long. And I'm worried I might drop one. What do people that set 50+ eggs do?

Sorry - clicked it twice. Now I see how easy it is to do it. I guess the 78 lumens is strong enough! It was easy to see the blood vessels in every egg. I am having a girlfriend come over tomorrow to see if any of the eggs have quit. I am not real sure what to look for there.
