What kind of thermostat do you have and how is it positioned? That is a crazy temp swing, you can do better. My water heater thermostat stays within the 99 degree, it just needs to be in the right spot.

Chicks dont need to eat for about two days, but you can move them to the brooder once they are dry and fluffy.

Here is a pic of the setup
I adjusted it so we will see

But like I said looks like 10 out of 13 look good so we will see tommorrow

For your next round, move the thermostat so that it is within 2 inches of the light bulb with the metal side facing the bulb. Those water heater thermostats work off of the radiant heat, so in the position you have it, by the time the thermostat registers 99 degrees, the ambient temp is at 104. I used velcro to stick my thermostat to the side of the cooler, so I can still take it off and adjust it.

. Good luck!!!
Chicks stay in the bator untill they are no longer wet. They can stay in there for up to 24 hours is necessary.
So in your case, any that hatch from 6:00pm onwards I would leave till the next day. Then they can go into your brooder or under a broody.
