Anyone want to hatch with me? - Went in 01/16/14.

Anybody have any experience in hatching with the eggs still in the egg carton? I have seen people hatch that way, however; it seems that my lil chick is having a hard time getting out.......Any suggestions? Not being able to open the top to the incubator is torture!

We were talking about this on another hatch thread. Some people will move them to the floor if they are struggling in the carton.

Wouldnt that require opening the top though? I have 6 other eggs that are set to hatch tomorrow-Friday! One of which is already pipping so if there is a chance that I would hurt those 6 I don't want to take it!

The chick was able to get out of the carton, just seemingly found his way back in! LoL

The other one is not pipped completely through the shell, just knocked "the color" (best way I can describe it, the brown is knocked off and I see a speck of white) off. Poor little thing is peeping up a storm!

What temperature should the brooder be or will the chicks regulate that themselves as they move from the light to away from the light?

I'm a little nervous about this one day old. The only hatch out of 12. Is it normal for them to poop green? Only once so far & that was about 5 hours old. I don't think it has really eaten anything. Pecks at my fingers and rings and food, but doesn't seem to get anything down. Acting fine tho. Any help is appreciated.
Oh wow, she is so cute and fluffy!!!
I really don't know much about chick problems. Maybe you should start a thread about it for more help!

One has hatched! I think I only have 1 that is scheduled to hatch today, the rest will be tomorrow and Friday!

Here he/she is....I believe its a Black Silkie-- I had 3 bantam eggs in the incubator and it is black and feather footed with black skin just like my black silkie roo/hen.

YAY!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!

BAD NEWS with my hatch!!! We had a state of emergency!! Power went out this morning ( right on hatch day ) and I really didn't know what to do. I had to go off to school as well. So I wrapped the bator in a doona...but then my sister reminded me...I HAVE A BROODY!!! So we snuggled up the 3 hatched but still wet chicks in jumpers and collected the eggs from the bator and quickly made a mad dash through the cold rain to the chicken coop. There I managed to get 3 chicks and 8 eggs under my bantam broody. The 2 left over eggs that didn't fit went back up into the incubator covered in the doona and I hoped the power would come back on for them.

When I got home all the power was back on, no pips from the two eggs though.
All seems to be fine down with the broody. I didn't want to see under her as it's a delicate time for the eggs and chicks.

Good luck! So scary. That's a lot of stuff under a bantam. She must be in heaven!
Do any of you know how long it takes the little chickies to break all the way through the shell when they pip?

My 2 that had started haven't made any progress in 3 hours. Still no hole through, just a crack.
