Put my eggs in ld and I can't seem to get the humidity up past 56%, any suggestions? I have all wells full and 2 sponges in.... Looks like 3 bcm, 8 glb's and 9 bb/pb made it in few questionable but they didn't stink so maybe. My bcm eggs were pretty bad off so really hoping to get these 3. I have never done dry incubation before so humidity went from 38 to 56 and I hope no-one drowns. Also does anyone know about buff silkies? I have one and it appears to have barring on its wing feathers coming in, is this normal?

What day are you on? If you are wanting to do a dry hatch, for the first 18 days, you want your humidity between 25-40%. 30's seem to be most desirable. On days 18-21, you want it to be in the 60's, no higher than 72%, I would say.. I'm not sure what day you are on, so that's why I provided that info. If you are trying to lower the humidity, you could try putting a dry washcloth or paper towel in there, and if you are trying to raise it, put a wet paper towel or wash cloth in. The humidity will raise with surface area rather than depth, so open that washcloth/paper towel up so that it can work for you faster.

Thanks I am on day 18 just locked down this afternoon and I have three full wells and two large soaked sponges and humidity is still at 56. I thought it was a little low, I'm gonna try and put straw through hole and pour hot water on sponges to see if I can get it to at least 60, I don't want to open and there are eggs everywhere so can't fit washcloth but I will next time thanks for tip.

It's been a while since I've checked in. Putting one into lockdown from my third attempt tonight. Put another dozen in Saturday, Still might have have only one of the three hens fertile, know more tonight.

I put a wet paper towel on the bottom of the incubator when I'm struggling to get the humidity up. It works well, but dries out pretty quickly.

I've never had buff Silkies, but a lot of my porcelains would get faint barring as their feathers grew in. It would disappear as they went through their juvenile moults.

That's what I thought with the buff such a cutie! As for the humidity I was up in night to check and it was finally at 65 but I did have to add paper towel woke up this morning and it's back down grrr what a pain

It's adorable!

I just leave the towel in and pipe water in through the vent holes, so I don't have to keep opening the bator to wet or replace the paper towel. Those small straws from juice boxes work perfectly.

I'm gonna go steal a straw from juice box. If these guys hatch they will be surrounded by sponges and paper towels and one straw I dropped through the hole. Lol

Today I moved my 6 pack of chicks that I got from my hatch into their brooder. I taught them how to eat and drink. I think they were more than ready to go in there!! Here's each of them in order of who hatched first.

#20- my platinum blonde chick!

#8- My monkey chick. she/he's adorable! Mother is BSL.

#7- my ugly "duckling". She/he had a piece of shell stuck to it's head until just before I took the picture. lol

First time in the brooder box. They caught on quick! Has anyone tried teaching chicks young to use water nipples? This is what I use out in my coop, so I want them to know all about it. They've figured out that water comes out of it, so I don't think that they will have a problem with drinking water from it. Input is welcome!!


PS: The mothers of all of the chicks except for #8 are silver laced wyandotte. Dad is a backyard mutt with feathered feet. I think he has new hapshire in him? No clue..

Got some blrw babies today and a americauna/lo couldn't resist very pretty color. So if my others hatch tomorrow I will put a pic on. Hope everyone is having some great hatches.
