I'm in! I set 32 eggs on the 7th, a variety of breeds and colors from keri78. I'm using my new LG 9200 with an egg turner and fan and it's working great. I'm keeping my humidity in the 30's but not sweating it and my temp is pretty stable. I'll candle at day 7.

Hey, question! I'm new to candling and I've got to candle 32 eggs, which will take my a while. Is it ok to have the bator open that long and lose all my temp or should I be putting the top on and off which will make me all fumble fingered?!

I just received (mon 4/11) 36 Welsummer eggs from 2 different suppliers. They will go into the 'bator on Tues 4/12!! Two did arrive cracked and I used nail polish to repair. They are all sitting point down in egg cartons. I have to drive them over to my girlfriends incubator today and have her put them in tomorrow morning! Here are the eggs! 5-6 of them were EXCEPTIONALLY dark brown and I am hoping we can keep them separate and figure out whick chicks they are when they hatch!!!

This is my first time incubating and she's doing most of the work. But I'm thinking she will be gone the last weekend in April, just when lockdown/hatching time will be happening, so I will probably have to check up on the bator then!!

I've got more eggs coming in the end of the week. Should be around 2 dozen and they will probably have to go into the hover-bator and I have no idea how to use it. They will be SQ large fowl - a variety, and SQ Bantams - so that is going to be quite trying for me!

Will post a picture of those eggs when I get them!!

Cheers all!

I candled last night (only a few days in), I couldn't help it. I saw veins in some but saw at least a couple that were obvious duds. I have 30 in the incubator now and I have 4 dozen more being shipped today. With what I've read about hatching Silkie eggs, I might have been money ahead just buying quality chicks or started birds. I was really hoping for at least 50% hatch rate.

When candling, I lift the cover off the bator and set it down next to the base in the same position. I figure it keeps some heat in the top (maybe just my imagination). When broody hens are on their nest, they leave the eggs every day, once or twice, to eat and drink. It is natural for the eggs to cool slightly during that time.

Happy Hatching

I just candled about 15 of my 36 silkie eggs at day 12 today, some have blood ring other look dard inside with veins, but no movement? Mt first time so I'm confused!!!! Should they always be moving at day 12 or is still good, also it looks like I have a air sack on some top and bottom? They are on a turner with the small end down at 98.5 and 35 - 40 5 humidity. Help......
