Anyone who loves to Crochet?

Hey guys..... does anyone know if you can make a blanket just doing single crochets with a giant chunky yarn? Or does it have to be fancy?
I'm thinking I'd like to do a temperature blanket next year, and doing a row every day is going to be hard, so I'd like to use a chunky yarn and make the rows shorter.

If you have a large enough hook for chunky yarn like a 10mm or 15mm sure it should work!

I have used a 9hook with 4ply yarn to make a single crochet blanket. It actually works up quicker than using a thicker ply yarn.

Right now I'm working on making my own patterns to start an etsy shop. I'd like to make plushies- I'm thinking that I'd like to start with a sheep one, a chicken one, an octopus one and a cow one. I'm going to make them out of big chunky fluffy yarn, and right now I'm working with regular yarn to figure out patterns.

I knit (slowly) and crochet (moderate at this, been doing it for 25+ years). I'm in need of a realistic-ish hen amigurumi with a scissor beak! My daughter is going in for surgery "some time in the next 3-4 months" and is very scared (she's 6). I want to give her a stuffed version of her favorite chicken, Shadow. Problem is, Shadow is a "wonky donkey" pullet with a scissor beak and she's an EE. She's also behind in developing like the rest of our 27 week pullets, she still cheeps like a chick and tries to get under the other gals for warmth, she's less than half their size, but she is NOT a bantam, just small.

Any help in finding a pattern (paid for or free) would be greatly appreciated!
