anyone who?

Don't feel like a failure. 2 years is a very long time, and we live in a very cruel world. We went roughly 3 years without a predator attack. Last year we had a coon visit a pullet of ours. The coon has since then been...removed, as a factor. We don't go hunting for trouble. But when something messes with my babies, I take care of the issue.

Since then, we've been very fortunate. But we always know that we want our birds to have the best quality of life imaginable, so we give them some free-range and time to be 'off their lead'. We cannot always babysit. But we try our best. And that's all we can ever do. I'd rather have my birds die sooner, having lived a happier life, then later, having lived a life that they were unhappy with. Life is short.

Don't let losses deter you. It's horrible that birds were lost because a domesticated animal could not be contained. Life goes on.

No there is more you can do, a defense in depth is more than building a Fort Knox pen and coop.

It also means using any other legal methods possible to exclude predators from your place.

Those predators are going to try until you make a mistake or mother nature grants them access to your birds by say dropping a tree across the pen or onto the coop.
