Anyone with hatch date Oct 15-25?!? Check out this thread!

So, you took chicks out of the incubator even though others have yet to hatch?

Yes we did. We are about to take these 5 out that hatched while we were at church. Our experience has been to get them out as soon as possible since they are rolling the other eggs all over the incubator. We let them dry well before taking them out. My husband uses a straw and syringe to add water to the incubator as needed.

Interesting! I thought about pulling some out when we get to that point but worried about shrink wrapping anyone.

I have been reading on here about shrink wrap and wondered about it, but what I read on incubating says that when they get shrink wrapped it is caused by incorrect humidity either during hatching or before hatching even begins. If you have too much evaporation it will cause shrink wrap and has nothing to do with opening the incubator. We are maintaining 55% humidity and can not get it any higher in the Styrofoam style incubator. All our other batches of incubation were from Dec 2010 to May 2011 and it was much more humid. With such a dry summer we are not experiencing the usual humidity for this area. Environmental conditions outside of the incubator play an important factor as well. Our A/C unit quit a few weeks back so we have had the house opened up and the temp inside has been fluctuating all throughout the day. Some days it got pretty hot in here. Now today the house is closed up since it is so cold outside. We know we have done everything right as far as temp and humidity all throughout the 21 days. That is about all we can do. One chick was stuck behind the thermometer stand and not sure how long it was stuck there.
Not sure whether you should open yours or not. That is up to you. Hopefully which choice you make works out for you and your birds.

Ya, I'm not opening mine until the hatched ones have been in there for 48 hours+ or if absolutely necessary. The humidity cannot be controlled if I open the Bator and compromise it. My humidity is maintaining at 65-70%.

my favorite egg still hasen't pipped.
Bummed.

Don't stress yet! I've watched my Bator off and on all day and each time I return it seems someone else has pipped. There are plenty that still haven't done anything but it's still early. Way too early to give up!
