I've never asked, but do you have other ducks? I don't know if a short stint with low humidity is enough to shrink 'em. I'm not much help, I'm realizing........LOL.

Yep...The last one just finally got away from the egg at about 4am this morning. It can take them a bit longer- but no reason why they cant still hatch. I usually do try and help them if they need it- but make sure they still have some work to do- as I believe that the hatching process is still important as it does help to strengthen them. I will peel back some of the shell from the pip hole so the they can gain a little room to move. I somrtimes also carefull with a fingernail crush some iof the shell so they can move around. It can take them a while before they take up the room at the other end of the egg- but once they do - you often see a lot more movement. Let me know over the next few hours how it goes..I will be around for a while tonight.

I only keep runners lol, I can hear the peeping lol. Thank duckyfromoz for the info

OH...and something else about Runners...I have noticed they are just a little different in the eggs than my pekins. The longer neck is the reason. They are still curled up the smae way- I have just noticed that they hatch a little differently. It can take them a little longer to start to work their way around due to the way the neck is so curled up.

Hello,

Well the ducklings inside the eggs are cheeping and wirggling like mad but not making progress

Last night we got home from camping this weekend and the first thing I did was run out and look under my broody chicken (GLW) that I had put two duck eggs under so she could be sitting on something until we got her some fertile chicken eggs. I lifted her up adn sure enough there was a little duck maybe 12 hours old, just old enought to be all fluffed up. The other eggs was cracked all along the under side of it and he was on his way out.

Then I ran over to Cocoa and there was one little wet duckling that I could see under her.

From what I've read, that's fine! LOL. It's when they really start to slow down that you can start to worry. But, be aware, they do take breaks. Sounds like you have some healthy, fiesty little babies in there!

And Pigeon is doing great! She is with her group of little buddies and you'd never know she had a little trouble in the egg. She and the other 17 little bantams and the Runners we bought at the same time got their first bath last night and that was a total kick! Here is a picture of her all dried off afterwards..
