Anyone with Pitties?

some breeds its done to prevent infection and health issues with super floppy ears, others to prevent police, serious hunting and guard dogs from having their ears ripped around. in pets and show it is mostly done to breed standard and that is based upon looks and use. My parents never had their current boxers ears done, so he looks like a baby pit bull that’s missing a few cards out of the deck. It annoys me that the expression always on the dogs face is now “derr?!”

Never met a pitty I didn't like.

I agree, dogs that have known dog aggression shouldn't be bred. There are plenty of pitbulls that are not dog-aggressive!

I have a pit/boxer mix named Walter, he's only 9 months or so. I'll post pictures later, when I'm on my own computer. He's a great dog and very smart.

I prefer the ears not done, but I really know why they crop the tails now!! Haha, oh well I love his tail and his dorky expression.

I agree with not breeding dog aggression. There are also more amazing pitties euthanized every single day than adopted. If people love them so much, why not save a life instead of creating more? I have four rescued pitties/pit mixes and a rescued AmBull, and had an amazing little Staffie Bull who I lost to a heart condition a few years ago. Four of these dogs were on death row. All are amazing dogs, all are now fixed.

My shelter consists of more than half pit bulls. Of those 13 or 14 pits, only ONE SINGLE male came in neutered. Every other male was intact and every single female has clearly been bred, some obviously multiple times. We are a fairly small no kill shelter in a fairly small town in a very small state. However, this problem occurs everywhere and the vast majority of those dogs WILL be euthanized. There aren't enough good, responsible pit bull homes for the amount of pit bulls that are produced. It seems like people would be doing the breed more of a favor by adopting the wonderful homeless pits that are out there rather than producing more and more and more.

At one time you would be correct. However, modern Pit Bull breeders are selecting AWAY from dog aggression as a desired trait. The only people who select FOR dog aggression are people who breed for dog to dog fighting. Dog aggression has NO purpose other than for dog fights and is the one trait that makes Pit Bulls and the like so hated by so many people.

Anyone breeding these dogs should never, ever...EVER breed a dog that has dog aggression problems. That only purpetuates the aggression in the genetics. Its irresponsible.

To the OP: Is there a reason why they are on such heavy chains? I was just wonderin'....

They are all beautiful!

@Morgan: Thanks! Yeah, he's actually really well behaved concerning food though. He could totally jump on the table, but his way of begging is to be the best behaved ever and acts like he doesn't notice it.

@Tricia: Most likely an open yard and it's to make sure they don't run off. They're pretty hyper, pretty strong, and pretty smart... but they have selective hearing.

And there's nothing keeping them in one place if they get inspired.

What was she mixed with? She's very pretty.

I made my grandma pull over today because I saw a dog and it looked nothing like a pitbull except it was muscular and it was tall like my dog. The face looked like greyhound or something though. I got out and pet the dog and was like Pit, Boxer, and Greyhound? And they were like WOW NO ONE'S GUESSED THAT BEFORE HOW DID YOU KNOW?! XD Pitbull torsos are so obvious.
